Katie\u200d Porter (D-CA), who \u200dwon&#8217;t \u2063seek reelection as \ud834\udd7ashe \u200bseeks \u200bthe U.S. Senate\u200b seat held \u2062by \u200bSen. \u2062Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).<\/p>\n<h3>Tyranny of \u2063the Majority, or \u200bthe\u2064 Minority\u200d of One<\/h3>\n<p>Orange County,\u200d once a\u2064 Republican stronghold, has more\u2062 registered Democratic \u200cvoters than \u200dRepublicans, \u200c37%\u2062 to 34%, according\u2063 to\u200c 2021 state\u200b registration data.<\/p>\n<p>While \u2063Porter secured\u2063 her\u2063 third term\u200d in Congress \u200cin\u200d November \u200cin the vastly\u2062 redrawn 47th District,\u2063 statewide\u200c Republican candidates\u2063 still \u200bwon \u2063the\u200c Orange\u2064 County vote.\u200c Two\u200c Republican\u200b candidates \u2064are campaigning\u2062 to replace\u2062 Porter.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u200b  <\/p>\n<h3>Scott Baugh<\/h3>\n<p> \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Former \u200bstate\u200d Assemblyman \u200cScott\u2062 Baugh is the California Republican Party and Republican Party of \u2063Orange County&#8217;s selected candidate trying\u2064 to flip\u2064 the Golden State\u2019s\u200d 47th \u2064District.<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a\u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) narrowly defeated Baugh in\u2062 the\u200c closely divided \u200bcoastal district, 51.7% \u2064to 48.3%, as\u2063 stated \u200din \u200dthe election\u2064 results.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>Baugh represented the state&#8217;s coastal 67th \u200dDistrict in \u200cthe \u2062California\u2064 State\ud834\udd7a Assembly\u200d from\u200b 1995 \u200bto \u20622000, serving as\ud834\udd7a the\ud834\udd7a chairman \u200bof\u2064 the\u200d Republican Party\u2063 of \u200bOrange\u2063 County in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>\u2064 \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Announcing his run in\u2064 January \u200bfor \u200ba\ud834\udd7a second attempt at \u2062winning\ud834\udd7a over California\u2019s 47th\u200c District, Baugh has raised\u200b over\u200b $1\ud834\udd7a million for his 2024\u200d congressional \u200ccampaign.\ud834\udd7a Baugh\u200b has currently racked \ud834\udd7ain \u200cthe \u2063largest \u2062amount in individual\u200d contributions.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters \u2064are rightfully upset\u200b with the dysfunction \u200cin \u2063Washington \u2064and deserve better,\u201d Baugh\u200d said in his\u200b campaign launch. \u200d\u201cI\u200d am ready\u2063 to go to\u200b work to restore thoughtful, conservative\u2064 representation \u200bto\u200c our part\u200b of Orange \u200dCounty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \ud834\udd7a<\/p>\n<p>Baugh\u2019s\u200b campaign website \u200chosts a \ud834\udd7avideo \u2062emphasizing \u2062his focus\u200b on\u200d keeping down crime in\u200c Orange \ud834\udd7aCounty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt \u200bhappens \u200dall too often and \ud834\udd7anear \u2062here \u2063- \u2062a gang attack,\ud834\udd7a a\u2063 senseless \u2063act \u200dof violence,\u201d\ud834\udd7a Baugh \u200dsaid.\u2062 \u201cIt&#8217;s \ud834\udd7avile \u200cand it&#8217;s wrong. \u2064That&#8217;s\u2063 why I \u2064joined law\u200d enforcement,\u2063 parents, \u200cand teachers\u2064 to stop this\ud834\udd7a violence and give our\u2063 kids \u200dhope \u200bfor their\u2063 future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u200b <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs chairman of our Gang\u200b Reduction Intervention\u2062 Partnership, we \u200care providing kids a \u2064chance to \u200dsucceed in \u200bthe classroom and in life while \u2063preventing \u2064crime,\u201d Baugh\u2064 said.<\/p>\n<p> \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>Baugh \u2064chairs the Orange\u2062 County \ud834\udd7aGang Reduction \u2063and Intervention Partnership which \u200cis a collaboration \u2062between Orange\u2062 County \u2062law\u200c enforcement \u200bagencies and\u2063 officials \u2062to prevent \u2063minors from becoming\u2064 involved in\u2062 criminal street\u2064 gangs.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2062<\/p>\n<p>During his previous\u200b bid for California\u2019s \u206247th District, \u2062Baugh \u2063emphasized his\u2063 support for \u200blowering \u2062the \u2063national debt,\u200b strengthening border security, and\u2062 restoring \u2063operations\u2064 that were negatively affected by \u2063the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNancy \u200dPelosi, \u2063Katie\u200c Porter, and their \u200dradical \ud834\udd7aleft-wing \u200dallies in Congress just don&#8217;t\u200c get it,\u201d Baugh said in a\u200c September\u200b 2022 \u2062campaign \u200bvideo. \u201cTheir\u200c solution \u200cto every problem is to \u200ctax you more, \u2063spend more, and impose more\u200c oppressive \u2063lockdowns that \u200brestrict our freedoms. I&#8217;m \ud834\udd7arunning to change that to \u200csecure \u2064the border to\ud834\udd7a slash the \u2063national\u200b debt \u2064and\u200c keep\u200d our\u200c schools and\u2062 businesses open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064<\/p>\n<p>Baugh has racked\u200d up \u200bdozens\u200d of \u200dnotable endorsements,\ud834\udd7a including \ud834\udd7asupport from House \ud834\udd7aSpeaker \ud834\udd7aKevin\u2063 McCarthy (R-CA), House \u200bMajority Leader Steve Scalise \u2063(R-LA), \u200bHouse \u2062Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), House Republican \u200cConference Chairwoman\u200b Elise Stefanik (R-NY), \u2062and \u200cmultiple other GOP\u200d members.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u200b  <\/p>\n<h3>Max \u2063Ukropina<\/h3>\n<p> \u200b <\/p>\n<p>Max \u200cUkropina, founder\u200b of Newport\u200d Beach\ud834\udd7a credit monitoring\u2064 app \u200cFloat, entered the race in April as the \u2063second \u2063Republican\u200c candidate vying \u2063to\u2063 flip the \u2064seat\u2063 currently\u200c held \u2062by a Democrat.\u200b The\u2062 Orange County\u2062 native \u200bsaid if elected,\ud834\udd7a he\u2019ll support lower taxes, stand up\u2062 for \u2062small\ud834\udd7a businesses,\u2063 and\ud834\udd7a fight to\u200c keep the \u200barea\u200c safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s\u200c one of\u200d the \u200dmost expensive places\u200d to live,\u201d\u200b Ukropina told the\u2062 Washington Examiner. \u201cIt&#8217;s the greatest place \u200bto \u200clive, but \u200bthe\u200c costs are \u2062really\u2064 against it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ukropina emphasized that\u2062 people\u2064 shouldn&#8217;t \u2064have \ud834\udd7ato \u2064make the \u200cdecision between\u200d buying\u200d gas or \u200cgetting \u200cgroceries,\u200c adding,\ud834\udd7a \u201cthe\u200b federal \u200cgovernment \u200bis \u200bmaking it even\u200b harder to\u2062 get that\ud834\udd7a done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a \u200c<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpending \u2064is out of control. \u2062Taxes\u2064 are out of control. Inflation \u2063is a direct cause of\ud834\udd7a that,\u201d \u2063Ukropina said. \u201cThe debt \u200climit agreement \u2062that happened a\u200d little over a\u2064 month ago \ud834\udd7adid nothing, actually. \u2063We\u2062 increased \u200bthe \u200ddebt\u200b by \u200dactually a trillion \u2064dollars in under\u200c five weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200c  <\/p>\n<p>The \u2064total \u2064national \u200ddebt\ud834\udd7a sits at around $32.54 trillion \u2064as of July 12, \u200c$1\u200b trillion more than \u2063the $31.47\ud834\udd7a trillion level\u2063 reported\u2062 on June 2,\ud834\udd7a according to \u200dTreasury\u2064 Department data. President\u200b Joe\u200b Biden \u200bsigned \u200dthe\u2064 debt ceiling plan into\u200c law \u2064on \u2063June 3, \u2062suspending\u2062 the $31.4 \u2062trillion\ud834\udd7a borrowing\ud834\udd7a limit\u2062 until January\u2064 2025.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Ukropina called\u200d attention to\ud834\udd7a Orange County\u2019s\u2063 safe communities, \u2063with areas within the district \u2063often ranked\ud834\udd7a as some of the\u2064 safest\u200d cities\ud834\udd7a in America.<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s\u2063 a wonderful place, and it&#8217;s also\u2064 a great \u2062case\u2062 study in\u200b what it takes to have\u200d a \u200csafe community,\u201d Ukropina said.\u200b \u201cYou drive 20 minutes north and it&#8217;s \u2063a \u2062complete \u200dhellscape\u2063 and they&#8217;ve \u2062allowed \u200clawlessness in their streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Ukropina said\u200b that\u2062 areas close \u2063to the \u206247th District\u200b have residents \u2063\u201cbeing poisoned by \u2064fentanyl, and rampant\u200c homelessness and crimes\u2064 openly \u2064happening\u200d in the street \u200band\u2062 no \u200bone&#8217;s\u200b doing anything about \u2064it,\u201d\ud834\udd7a adding\u2062 that when you come\u2064 to Orange County,\u200b it\u2019s a \u200ddifferent story.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m\u200c running for\u200c Congress,\u2062 but the same\u200b people that\u200b support policies that \u2063are \u200chappening in San Francisco\u200c and\u200d Los \u200bAngeles are\u200c running \u200din \ud834\udd7athis \ud834\udd7arace,&#8221;\u200b Ukropina said.<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a \u2062<\/p>\n<p>Ukropina also claimed he \u2062will bring \u2064his\ud834\udd7a business\u2064 background \u200cto\u2062 Washington, D.C., acknowledging that because\ud834\udd7a he \ud834\udd7ais \u2062a political \u2062outsider, that \u2064means he\u2019s \ud834\udd7a\u201cnot\u2064 beholden to \u200banyone\u200c but\u2064 the voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d Republican \u200dhopeful said\u200c the\ud834\udd7a district\u2062 needs \u201ca \u2062candidate\u200d that understands \u2062the issues\u2064 that\u200b are important to \u2063Orange County from a \u2064Republican \u2063standpoint,\u201d pointing out \ud834\udd7athat \u2063Orange County is still\u2063 a \u2063conservative area.<\/p>\n<p>\u2064  \u200b<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u200b Federal Election \u200cCommission, \u2062other \ud834\udd7aRepublican\u200c candidates\u200c that filed \u200binclude\u2064 Steven \u200bCotton, James Griffin, and\ud834\udd7a Brian Burley, who\u2063 ran in \u2064multiple primary \ud834\udd7aelections \u200band a \u2064general election in \ud834\udd7athe past.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\n \u200b <\/p>\n<h3>Dave \u2062Min<\/h3>\n<p>\ud834\udd7a  <\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Dave \u2063Min was \ud834\udd7athe\u200b first major \u200dDemocratic candidate in\u2062 January to\u200c toss their\u200b hat into \u200dthe ring \u2064for the 47th\u2062 District.<\/p>\n<p>\u200d  \u200c<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 California\u200d native currently \u2062represents the 37th State\u2062 Senate District, \ud834\udd7aelected \u2064in 2020. \u2063Earning \u2064his law\u200c degree\u2062 from\u2064 Harvard University, Min went \u200bon to \u200dserve\u200c as\u2063 the Senate \u2063Banking Committee counsel for \u200cSen.\u200b Chuck Schumer (D-NY) before\u2062 returning to \u200dthe Golden\u2064 State\u200c to work as\ud834\udd7a an\u2062 assistant law\u200c professor \u2064at UC \u2062Irvine.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\u200d proud of \u2063the record I\u2019ve \u200bbuilt on the environment, gun violence\u200c prevention, women\u2019s reproductive \u2062rights,\ud834\udd7a the \u2063economy, and fighting \u2064hate,\u201d Min \u200csaid in his campaign announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u2064  <\/p>\n<p>Min\u2064 quickly\u2063 received Porter\u2019s endorsement, \u2063with \u200bthe Democratic \u200drepresentative\u200c saying \u200cin a\u200d statement, \ud834\udd7a\u201cDave has\u200b proven\u200d that\u200b he can win in\u200c this\u2063 area \u2064while delivering \u200don a progressive agenda \u200cwith real \u2064results.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>Several\u2062 other \u2064prominent\ud834\udd7a California Democrats\u200c have \ud834\udd7aalso\u2064 endorsed \u200dMin, \u200bincluding \u2064Lt.\u2063 Gov.\u200d Eleni \u2063Kounalakis, Attorney General\u200b Rob \u2062Bonta, and \u200bCalifornia State Treasurer \u2063Fiona Ma, according to \u2062his\u200c campaign \u2062site.<\/p>\n<p>Min raised\ud834\udd7a nearly $1 million since entering the \u200crace at \u200cthe start of the \u2062year, \ud834\udd7awith \ud834\udd7ahis campaign reporting his fundraising\u2063 efforts\u200d don&#8217;t take money \u2064from corporate PACs.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c\u2063 <\/p>\n<p>The\u200c progressive candidate is\u2063 running \u200dhis \u200bcampaign \u200don\u200b supporting \u2062women\u2019s\u2063 rights,\u200b condemning\u200b the Supreme Court\u2019s\u200c decision\ud834\udd7a to overturn\u200c Roe\u2064 v. Wade, \u2063and\u2063 pushing\u2062 for\u200d climate change \u200caction as\u2062 the chairman\u2064 of the\u2064 Senate\u200d Natural Resources\u2062 and \u200bWater \u2064Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Min \ud834\udd7ahas \u2063introduced legislation \u2063focused on \ud834\udd7atackling safety issues in\u200c public\u200b transit \u2064systems.\u200b In partnership \u2064with Stop\u2063 AAPI Hate, \u2062Min\ud834\udd7a proposed \u2064a bill requiring 10 of California&#8217;s largest\u2063 public transit systems to create \u200da\u2062 community\u200c survey \u2063tool collecting data\u200d about \u2064ridership safety.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c \u200c<\/p>\n<p>Min faced \u200dtroubles with law \u200benforcement\u2064 in May \u200cwhen \u200dhe was\ud834\udd7a arrested\u2062 in Sacramento \u2062for \u2064driving \u200cunder the \u2063influence, \ud834\udd7ahaving\u200b a blood alcohol\u200d level\ud834\udd7a nearly twice \u2064the\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/anti-israel-activists-defend-biden-state-dept-nominee\/\" title=\"Anti-Israel Activists Defend Biden State Dept. Nominee\">legal limit<\/a>.\u200b He was \ud834\udd7apulled over \u2064by\u200b the \u2062California\u2063 Highway \u2064Patrol for\u2064 driving\u200c through a red light without \u2063his \u200bheadlights \u200con, according to police\u200d reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo\u200d my family, \u2063constituents, and \u200dsupporters,\u200c I\ud834\udd7a am so \u2064deeply \u2062sorry,\u201d Min\u200b wrote\u2063 on Facebook. \u201cI\u200b know I \u2063need to do better. \u2063I will \u2062not let\ud834\udd7a this \u200cpersonal failure \u2063distract from \u2063our work\u200d in \u2063California \ud834\udd7aand\u2063 in Washington.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Min\u2019s\u200b arrest caused some Democratic lawmakers\u200d to \u200cpull their\u2064 support,\ud834\udd7a including\u2063 former\u2063 Democratic\u200c congressman \u2062Harley\u200c Rouda, who\u200d was \u2064a contender\u200b in \u2063the congressional race before\ud834\udd7a pulling out\u200d in April for\u2063 health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2062<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While \u200dwe\ud834\udd7a thank\u200c Dave Min for \u200dhis service \u200dto the party, with his \ud834\udd7arecent \ud834\udd7aDUI\ud834\udd7a he \u200bshould immediately\ud834\udd7a withdraw\u2062 from the race,&#8221; Rouda\u2063 said \ud834\udd7ain a \u2062statement.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Ukropina told\u200b the\ud834\udd7a Washington Examiner\u2064 while \u200dMin\u2019s\u2062 situation \u2064is disappointing,\u200d it\u2019s\u2062 a matter\u2064 of the \ud834\udd7aDemocratic\u200c Party.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ll \u2062let\u200b the \u200dDemocrats have\ud834\udd7a their own party issues,\u201d Ukropina \u2064said. \u201cIt&#8217;s deeply disappointing what\u2063 happened with Dave Min,\u201d\u200b adding, \u201cyou \u200bhate to see that lapse \ud834\udd7ain\u2062 judgment, but\u200c if\u200d Katie Porter\u2064 wants \u2062to keep her endorsement, it does \u2062not \u200daffect me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2064  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While I \u200dapproach this matter\u2063 with\u200b the utmost\ud834\udd7a respect \ud834\udd7afor \u200call \u2064parties involved, I \u2063believe \u200bit\u2062 would have been\u200b appropriate \u200dfor\ud834\udd7a Katie\u200c Porter to address\ud834\udd7a and\u200b withdraw\u200d her\u200d support of \u200dDave\u2063 Min\u200d following \u200bhis DUI\u200c incident,&#8221; \u2064Dom Jones, \u2064a Democratic candidate in the\u2062 race, told\u2062 the \u2064Washington Examiner,\u2062 adding &#8220;we cannot condone \ud834\udd7aor endorse such \u200bbehavior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u200c  <\/p>\n<p>The\u200b Washington Examiner reached out \u2063to\u2062 Min&#8217;s campaign.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Joanna Weiss<\/h3>\n<p>Joanna \ud834\udd7aWeiss,\u200c founder \u200dand \u2063president of Women\ud834\udd7a for American Values \u2062and \u2062Ethics, announced\ud834\udd7a in February\u200d that\u200c she&#8217;s \u200cseeking to \u200brepresent the district\u2062 to keep \ud834\udd7athe seat Democratic.<\/p>\n<p> \u200b <\/p>\n<p>Weiss,\u2062 an Orange County native from\u2063 a military family,\u2063 is\u2064 a former \u200blitigator\u2062 and former adjunct\u200c law \u200bprofessor at\u200b Chapman\u2062 University. She\u2062 founded \u200dWAVE \ud834\udd7ain \u200b2016,\u200c which has supported\u200b multiple California\ud834\udd7a Democratic \u2064candidates,\u2062 including\u200b Porter,\u200d Rep. Mike\u2063 Levin, Sen.
