Mr. \u2062Trump <a \u200chref=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-set-to-miss-iowa-presidential-forum-hosted-by-tucker-carlson_5390456.html\">did not attend the forum<\/a>, \u200dwhich was \u200bhosted\u2063 by \u200cThe FAMiLY \u200cLeader\u2063 and\u200b Glenn \u200bBeck\u2019s The \u2062Blaze.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump\u2019s Iowa\u200c spokesman \u200bsaid the event conflicted with the\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/former-president-trump-tucker-carlson-and-others-speak-at-turning-point-action-2023-conference-day-1-post_5399860.html?utm_source=open&#038;utm_medium=search\">Turning Point Action Conference<\/a> in \u2063Florida. Mr. Carlson and Mr. Ramaswamy are\u200d among the\ud834\udd7a speakers\u200b at\u200d that \u2063event, along \u200bwith Rep. Matt Gaetz\ud834\udd7a (R-Fla.), \u2063Rep. Byron\u200d Donalds (R-Fla.), and \u2063other conservatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u2062  <\/p>\n<p>While \u200cformer President Donald J. Trump had\u200d both supporters\u200d and critics, \u200bit was as clear \u2063in\u200c Des \u200bMoines as\u2064 elsewhere \u200bon the \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/central-african-republic-votes-under-threat-of-violence\/\" title=\"Central African Republic votes under threat of violence\">campaign trail<\/a> that \u200dthe \u2064Manhattan real estate mogul has reshaped \u200dthe Republican electorate \ud834\udd7aand its priorities. \u2064For one thing, by \u2064appointing the justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade last year, Mr. Trump\u2019s presidency \u2063is\u200b seen\u200d to have \u2062shifted the \u2062abortion debate \u2063for good\u200d by\u2062 pushing policy \u2063decision closer to the people,\u2062 from U.S. \u200cCongress to \u2064state legislatures.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Grant Gardner\u200d told The \u2063Epoch Times he\u2019d switch \ud834\udd7ahis support from Trump \u200d\u201conly if he doesn\u2019t \u200brun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVivek Ramaswamy\u200c would be \u200cmy next choice,\u201d he \u200cadded.<\/p>\n<p> \u200d <\/p>\n<p>David Johnson, an Iowan\u2063 who supports Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, said, \u201cI love\u2062 what \u200bTrump did. Asa \u2064Hutchinson\u2019s \u2063defense \ud834\udd7aof his\u200b 2021 veto \ud834\udd7aof\u2063 a\u2064 bill that would have\ud834\udd7a barred\u2063 gender transition \ud834\udd7asurgeries \u200band similar \u2062procedures \u2063for\ud834\udd7a minors. \u200bYet,\ud834\udd7a he also described\u200d Mr. Hutchinson as\u2063 both intelligent and experienced.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u200cGardner said Mr. Hutchinson\u2063 \u201chad some \u2062smart lawyer \ud834\udd7adodges\u201d \u200cfor\u200d host \u2064Mr. Carlson\u2019s\u2064 questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson commented \u2063somewhat more\u200b positively on Sen. Tim\u2062 Scott (R-S.C.),\u200d who also\u200b spoke with Mr. Carlson in\u2062 Des Moines.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u200b love the man.\u200d I\u2062 don\u2019t think he\u2019s\u2063 got a \u200cchance to win,\u201d Mr.\u200d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTucker\u2019s tenacious. \ud834\udd7a[He\u2019ll] ask a question. \u200bIf they turn \u200binto \u2062a politician and\u2063 go\u200d to their speech,\u2063 he comes right back with\ud834\udd7a the same\ud834\udd7a question,\u201d said\u2062 Phil Bonifazi, another\u200c Iowan at the\u200b forum.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested the crowd\u2019s hostility to \u200bMr. Pence stems from his \u2063statements\u200c regarding\u2063 Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s <a \u2063href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/twitter-locks-president-trump-out-of-his-account-for-the-first-time_3646854.html\">words<\/a>\u2063 that day\u2064 were reckless,\u201d Mr. Pence told\u200b Mr. Carlson\u200d on stage.<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe whatever his \ud834\udd7aintentions in that \u2062moment, it endangered me and \ud834\udd7amy\u200b family and \u200deveryone that was\u2064 at the Capitol that \u2062day.\u2062 I\u2063 believe we will \u2064hold him \u200caccountable for that, just as \u2062the law will \u200bhold everyone that engaged \u2062in acts of \u200dviolence,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Yet, \u2062Mr. Pence\ud834\udd7a had virtually nothing to\u2062 say about more\u200d controversial cases\u200d being brought\ud834\udd7a in connection with Jan.\u2062 6: for \u2064example, <a\u200b href=\"https:\/\/headlineusa.com\/exclusive-j6-journalist-press-freedom-case\/\">the prosecution of young\u200c conservative \ud834\udd7aStephen Horn<\/a>, who \u200bfaces\u2062 multiple charges despite \ud834\udd7athe\u200b fact \u2062that \u200dhe attended the\u200d protest \u2064as \u200ca journalist, not \ud834\udd7athat he plans \ud834\udd7ato vote for\u2062 Mr. DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u200c [Mr. Trump] was\u200c an\u200b outstanding\ud834\udd7a president,\u201d \u2063Mr. Bonifazi said.<\/p>\n<p> \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Yet, he worries\u2062 that\ud834\udd7a media \u200dhostility to\u2062 the\u2064 former commander-in-chief could\u2063 hobble Mr.\ud834\udd7a Trump against if he is \u2064reelected\u2062 to\u2063 office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not\u200d here today,\u201d Mr. Bonifazi added.<\/p>\n<p>He voiced less enthusiasm for\u2062 Mr. Ramaswamy.<\/p>\n<p>\u2063  \u2064<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard him say things that are against the core of my \ud834\udd7aChristian\ud834\udd7a conservative stance,\u201d \u2063Mr. Bonifazi \u200bcontinued.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>In a May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/transcripts\/1177085392\">interview\u200c with NPR<\/a>, \u200cMr.\u2062 Ramaswamy\ud834\udd7a described gay marriage \u200das \u2062a new \u201cnorm in this country\u201d that Americans had \u201cachieve[d]]\u201d\u2014an \u2062apparent endorsement\u2062 of \u200ban institution that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/marriage-is-a-truth-that-cannot-be-redefined_4909221.html\">only dates back<\/a> to a Supreme Court decision during former President Barack Obama\u2019s \u2064second\u2062 term.<\/p>\n<p>\u200c  <\/p>\n<p>Rachel Terhaar said she was impressed by both Mr. DeSantis and\ud834\udd7a Mr. Ramaswamy. \u200dYet,\u200d the governor of Florida is still her (Madalina Vasiliu\/The\u200b Epoch Times)<br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<h2>\u2018City People\u200c Don\u2019t Understand\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Joyce Spencer \ud834\udd7ashared \u200dher thoughts multiple\u200d times during the event. \u200bThe born \u2064and bred\u200b Iowan\u2062 initially \u2063spoke with The Epoch Times after the \u2064morning \u2064session, when \u2064Mr. Hutchinson, Mr.\u2062 Scott, and Mr. Pence spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Spencer, who grew up on \u2064a \u2062small\u2063 farm, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epa-criticized-over-disappointing-ethanol-mandates-in-new-renewable-fuel-standards_5349148.html\">ethanol<\/a> is a <a \ud834\udd7ahref=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/land-owners-battle-aggressive-tactics-of-major-midwest-carbon-capture-pipeline_4515797.html\">major\u2063 issue<\/a>\u2063 in her home state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the city people don\u2019t \u2063understand,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p> \ud834\udd7a <\/p>\n<p>She \u200dpraised \u2064Mr. Scott, explaining that she \u200cknew\ud834\udd7a very little\u2064 about him before coming \u2063to the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was glad \u200bthat he\ud834\udd7a put Jesus first,\u201d she\ud834\udd7a said.<\/p>\n<p> \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>Like Mr. \ud834\udd7aJohnson,\u2064 she questioned \u2062Mr. Hutchinson\u2019s comments \u200don\u2062 gender\u2064 transition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe \u200dsays \u2062he\u2063 wants to leave\u2064 it to the \ud834\udd7aparents.
