Garaufis sentenced Mirsad Kandic, a citizen of Kosovo, to life in prison Friday. According to the Department of Justice, Kandic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/high-level-member-isis-sentenced-life-prison-material-support-foreign-terrorist#:~:text=Earlier%20today%2C%20Mirsad%20Kandic%20was,counts%20of%20providing%20material%20support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was convicted<\/a> of five substantive counts of providing material support to ISIS in the forms of personnel and one count of conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-announces-new-legal-team-for-impeachment-defense-after-previous-team-collapsed\/\" title=\"Trump Announces New Legal Team For Impeachment Defense After Previous Team Collapsed\">provide material support<\/a> to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cKandic was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/here-are-four-democrats-who-fueled-vaccine-skepticism-while-trump-was-in-office\/\" title=\"Here Are Four Democrats Who Fueled Vaccine Skepticism While Trump Was In Office\">high-ranking member<\/a> of ISIS who relished the death and destruction he wrought while providing every conceivable form of material support to a terrorist organization, including the recruitment of countless others to ISIS\u2019s bloody campaigns in Syria and elsewhere,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. \u201cToday\u2019s sentence holds the defendant accountable for his conduct and ensures that he will never again pose a threat to the United States or any of our allies. This Office will remain relentless in prosecuting terrorists who threaten the safety and security of the United States and U.S. interests around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kandic, who had lived in both Brooklyn and the Bronx, fought for ISIS, according to federal prosecutors. Additionally, prosecutors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/14\/nyregion\/isis-mirsad-kandic-sentenced.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that he recruited Jake Bilardi, an Australian teenager, who killed dozens in a suicide bombing. Kandic also helped gather weapons, military equipment, maps, money, and false identifications, for ISIS.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cServing ISIS\u2019s deadly terror campaign, this defendant fought on the battlefield, spread propaganda, smuggled weapons, and radicalized Western recruits,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G.
