Recently, an architect named Rex Heuermann was charged in the deaths of three of the 11 victims, reigniting hope for closure.<\/p>\n<p>Heuermann, 59, is accused of killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello over a decade ago. Additionally, he is considered the prime suspect in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The breakthrough occurred when detectives linked Heuermann to a pickup truck witnessed near one of the victims&#8217; disappearances in 2010. Subsequently, his DNA was found on a discarded pizza crust, matching evidence found on one of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Heuermann&#8217;s claims of innocence, Suffolk County police Commissioner Rodney Harrison assured the public that the investigation would persist until justice is served. Heuermann was ordered to be held without bail due to the &#8220;extreme depravity&#8221; of his alleged conduct.<\/p>\n<p>As investigators continue to search Heuermann&#8217;s home, the sandy stretch of Gilgo Beach, where the remains were discovered, remains a focal point.
