But the actions candidates have taken in the past also have consequences.<\/p>\n<p>That was clearly demonstrated on Friday when Tucker Carlson took Republican presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson to task for his 2021 veto of a bill prohibiting transgender procedures on minors.<\/p>\n<p>The normally affable former governor of Arkansas was visibly uncomfortable and irritated as Carlson, demonstrating courtesy and restraint, persistently pushed through Hutchinson\u2019s politico-speak responses to ask why he had refused to stop the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-bans-medicaid-from-covering-transgender-surgeries\/\" title=\"Florida Bans Medicaid From Covering Transgender Surgeries\">harmful procedures<\/a> on children.<\/p>\n<p>The key word in the exchange between Carlson and Hutchinson at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-nevada-a-corrupt-cash-for-votes-scheme-is-hiding-in-plain-sight\/\" title=\"In Nevada, A Corrupt Cash-For-Votes Scheme Is Hiding In Plain Sight\">presidential forum<\/a> of Blaze Media\u2019s Summit was \u201ctreatment.\u201d Hutchinson claimed he vetoed the bill because it did not allow ongoing treatment of children already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disney-holds-emergency-town-hall-to-appease-lgbtq-employees-vows-to-fight-texas-transgender-measure\/\" title=\"Disney Holds Emergency Town Hall to Appease LGBTQ Employees, Vows to Fight Texas Transgender Measure\">undergoing transgender procedures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhenever you look at the bill I vetoed, there was not any grandfather clause in there. \u2026 I think, independently, I think of the parents, I think of the Constitution, and actually the court \u2014 if you read the decision of the federal judge that struck it down as unconstitutional \u2014 really sided with parents as well,\u201d Hutchinson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut how is it treatment? How is it treatment?\u201d Carlson interjected. \u201cI guess that\u2019s my question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cIf you have a child who says \u2014 who\u2019s born a boy \u2014 \u2018I want to become a girl.\u2019 He hasn\u2019t gone through puberty yet. He\u2019s, say, 10. Is it treatment to prevent him from going through the natural processes of adolescence?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To the applause of the audience, Carlson said: \u201cIt seems not like treatment. It seems like something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson immediately switched to the time-honored politician\u2019s tactic of deflection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTucker,\u201d he said, \u201cI hope that we\u2019ll be able to talk about some issues, I know that \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, this is one of the biggest issues in the country, and I think every person in this room would agree,\u201d Carlson said to more applause and cheers, \u201cthat it is [an] essential issue because these are children who are being altered permanently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you can defend that alteration, that change, if you like. But there\u2019s really no debate on whether or not it\u2019s permanent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so I think it\u2019s fair to ask you in a calm, rational and, I very much hope, in a polite way, why you would support that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson countered that he was not describing what he was supporting but what he had vetoed. He said issues of health should be between parents and children and that there should not be interference from schools.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor said he was critical of the Obama administration\u2019s mandate that schools must let children decide which bathroom to use and of schools not informing parents of transgender issues children might bring up in school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then they [parents] make the decision,\u201d Hutchinson said. \u201cThey can go to the doctor if the child is suicidal, if the child is struggling. \u2026 They discuss hormonal treatment that would delay puberty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the government should come in and tell the parents: \u2018You can\u2019t give the child a vaccine\u2019 or \u2018You must give a child a vaccine\u2019 or \u2018You can\u2019t give them a treatment that you think is important.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson responded by saying he was not questioning Hutchinson\u2019s motives, but he again brought up the GOP candidate\u2019s use of the word \u201ctreatment\u201d to describe delaying the natural development of a child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou believe it\u2019s treatment,\u201d he said. \u201cYou believe \u2014 I suppose \u2014 that people can change their sex. \u2019Cause if you don\u2019t believe that, you wouldn\u2019t call it treatment, would you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson responded by saying that God created two genders, that he does not believe in transgenderism and that he would not advocate for a transgender change in his own family, nor would he want any kind of government funding for such procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Government funding should not be involved because, like abortion, transgenderism has religious opposition, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that Arkansas was one of the first states to pass legislation on restricting transgenderism (with the governor\u2019s veto overridden by the legislature before being jettisoned by the federal judge), Hutchinson said that while he had not read all the bills of other states, there has been some provision for grandfathering transgender treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the case, it didn\u2019t seem like the audience was in step with the former governor\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n<p>Trending Politics co-owner Collin Rugg shared the exchange on Twitter, saying, \u201cTucker is putting everyone on blast.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW: Tucker Carlson calls out RINO Republican presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson to his face for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tuckers-question-gets-round-of-applause-as-he-grills-hutchinson-on-veto-of-lgbt-bill\/\" title=\"Tucker's applause-worthy question: Why did Hutchinson veto the LGBT bill?\">supporting gender transitioning children<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tucker is putting everyone on blast <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are children who are being altered permanently and you can defend that change if you\u2019d\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T5HB0e549V\">pic.twitter.com\/T5HB0e549V<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1679887639875551232?\">July 14, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHow many conservative journalists do you know have the balls to call out RINOs to their faces?\u201d he said. \u201cVery few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tuckers-question-gets-round-applause-grills-hutchinson-veto-lgbt-bill\/\">Tucker&#8217;s Question Gets Round of Applause as He Grills Hutchinson on Veto of LGBT Bill<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been said that elections have consequences, and so do candidates&#8217; past actions.
