It Likely Violated Civil Rights Law.\">bans racial discrimination<\/a> in contracting.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    It comes as the university is already under a consent agreement with the Education Department over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2020\/10\/02\/new-york-university-settles-anti-semitism-case-education-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2020\/10\/02\/new-york-university-settles-anti-semitism-case-education-department&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689461115244000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3m1O0UMpMj96VW0e4m_aOb\">several anti-Semitic incidents on campus<\/a>, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/brandeiscenter.com\/anti-zionist-nyu-students-arrested-at-israel-independence-day-party-charged-with-reckless-endangerment-assault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/brandeiscenter.com\/anti-zionist-nyu-students-arrested-at-israel-independence-day-party-charged-with-reckless-endangerment-assault\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689461115244000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1G4Q9kxpm56tsy_R3PuuiL\">violent anti-Israel protest<\/a> that resulted in two arrests.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    The workshop, which cost $360 to attend, argued that white people need to &#8220;unlearn racism&#8221; without &#8220;burdening the people of color in our lives.&#8221; Facilitators and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nyu-hit-with-civil-rights-complaint-over-whites-only-anti-racism-workshop\/\" title=\"NYU faces civil rights complaint for hosting whites-only 'anti-racism' workshop.\">attendees repeatedly made clear<\/a> that no minorities were allowed, with one parent stating that she was &#8220;grateful&#8221; for the seminar\u2019s racial homogeneity. Other parents fretted about the &#8220;white supremacy culture&#8221; inherent in their jobs as lawyers and editors, according to audio of the seminar obtained by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    While many schools have been hit with discrimination complaints over minority-only fellowships, the NYU workshop, &#8220;From Integration to Antiracism,&#8221; marks the first time in recent memory that a university has faced blowback for excluding people of color. The seminar concluded a few weeks before the Supreme Court outlawed affirmative action in college admissions, a ruling expected to upend race-conscious programs on campus and beyond.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    &#8220;Eliminating racial discrimination,&#8221; the court\u2019s decision read, &#8220;means eliminating all of it.&#8221;\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Though the workshop began four years ago, it did not explicitly bar minorities until 2020, according to archived webpages included in the complaint.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    The Education Department &#8220;should investigate this blatantly discriminatory program and the circumstances under which the creation and promotion of it was approved,&#8221; the complaint states. &#8220;NYU\u2019s deliberate racial segregation in its FIAR workshop series constitutes invidious discrimination for which there is no legal justification.&#8221;\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    New York University did not respond to a request for comment.\n  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York University faces a federal civil rights complaint for hosting a whites-only anti-racism workshop, violating four civil rights laws.
