Devin Nunes, R-Calif., as the Republican lawmaker investigated FBI abuses amid the Russia hoax.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-07\/2023-07-13%20JDJ%20to%20Wray%20re%20HPSCI%20Subpoenas.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding answers about agency surveillance of Republican staff on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2017, Google reportedly received subpoenas for private emails and records belonging to two Republican staffers of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) while HPSCI was investigating the FBI\u2019s misconduct,\u201d Jordan wrote. \u201cThese subpoenas only came to light in 2022 due to Google\u2019s policy of alerting customers five years after law enforcement takes such action.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n    <\/figure>\n<p>At that time, Nunes was the Republican ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee while Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif, ran a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-spied-on-devin-nunes-staff-during-russia-hoax-subpoenas-show\/\" title=\"DOJ spied on Nunes staff during Russia probe, subpoenas reveal.\">deep-state campaign<\/a> to maliciously frame President Donald Trump as a Russian agent. Schiff was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/adam-schiffs-censure-is-the-bare-minimum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censured<\/a> by the lower chamber last month for abusing his role on the Intelligence Committee to undermine the legitimacy of the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ: <a href=\"http:\/\/Adam Schiff\u2019s Censure Is The Bare Minimum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adam Schiff\u2019s Censure Is The Bare Minimum<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nunes retired from Congress in January last year to run Trump\u2019s online alternative to Twitter, Truth Social. As the No. 2 lawmaker on the Intelligence Committee, Nunes was instrumental in pushing back on trumped-up claims of Russian collusion.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan now wants to know whether the FBI subpoenas to Google seeking information from Nunes\u2019 staff were submitted in \u201cretaliation for HSPCI\u2019s oversight of the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May, Special Counsel John Durham published his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-does-the-u-s-intelligence-report-on-ufos-say-everything-you-need-to-know\/\" title=\"What Does The U.S. Intelligence Report On UFOs Say? Everything You Need To Know\">long-awaited report<\/a> on the Russia-collusion hoax, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/15\/bombshell-obama-admin-had-no-actual-evidence-of-collusion-by-trump-when-it-launched-crossfire-hurricane-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> that \u201cneither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan wrote that the report \u201cconfirms many of the concerns about FBI misconduct advanced by HPSCI in 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nunes\u2019 work rejecting the Russia hoax narratives peddled by Schiff was entirely vindicated once Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence that anyone on the Trump campaign, let alone Trump himself, colluded with the Russian government to steal the White House. Nunes was further <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/12\/10\/ig-report-confirms-schiff-fisa-memo-media-praised-was-riddled-with-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vindicated<\/a> when the DOJ inspector general published a report in 2019 detailing a wide range of abuses within the FBI to advance the conspiracy. The California representative himself even became the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/11\/27\/medias-latest-anti-nunes-smear-is-michael-cohen-in-prague-all-over-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">target<\/a> of defamatory lies from Trump\u2019s opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan\u2019s letter to the FBI director comes just a day after Wray <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/12\/highlights-from-the-house-judiciary-hearing-with-christopher-wray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">testified<\/a> before the House Judiciary Committee. Lawmakers pressed Wray on myriad agency issues, including the FBI\u2019s abuse of surveillance powers as Congress prepares to reform the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Wray pressed for the reauthorization of a surveillance tool known as Section 702 of FISA that allows the FBI to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-government-makes-your-bank-spy-on-you\/\" title=\"How Government Makes Your Bank Spy on You\">conduct warrantless searches<\/a>.
