Previously, Opill had been approved by the FDA but required a prescription to obtain.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other birth control pills that contain both estrogen and progestin, Opill uses only progestin, a synthetic hormone that mimics progesterone. While it may not always stop ovulation, it is still considered safe and effective.<\/p>\n<p>About two-thirds of adult American women under 50 use some form of contraception, with a third of them relying on birth control pills, according to a 2022 Kaiser Family Foundation survey.<\/p>\n<p>However, concerns have been raised about the potential health risks associated with hormonal birth control, particularly those containing estrogen.
