(Photo by Jeff Swensen\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OAN\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/abril-elfi\">Abril Elfi<\/a><br \/>11:49 AM \u2013 Thursday, July 13, 2023<\/p>\n<p>A mass shooter convicted in the 2018 killings at a Pittsburgh synagogue is eligible to face the death penalty as ruled by the United States jury.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: The jury in the Tree of Life \u2013 Or L&#8217;Simcha shooting in Pittsburgh has reached a unanimous verdict that the shooter is eligible for the death penalty. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PGGGJoKDcG\">pic.twitter.com\/PGGGJoKDcG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Forward (@jdforward) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jdforward\/status\/1679500457343942656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/newsroom\/trial-for-2018-tree-of-life-synagogue-shooting-gunman-begins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">63 criminal counts<\/a> related to the nation\u2019s deadliest anti-Semitic attack at the Tree of Life synagogue, Robert Bowers, a 50-year-old truck driver from Pittsburg, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/newsroom\/pittsburgh-synagogue-shooter-found-guilty-of-all-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found guilty <\/a>last month.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bowers had killed 11 members of three different congregations while wounding two people and five police officers. <\/p>\n<p>Before the attack, Bowers raved on social media about his hatred of Jews and told officers on the scene that \u201call these Jews need to die.\u201d Bowers also expressed satisfaction with his actions to psychologists who interviewed him in May of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Jurors were given the responsibility of deciding if Bowers should be handed the death penalty and whether to impose it during the punishment phase of the trial, which began on June 26<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Mary Hahn claimed during the trial that Bowers had a long history of interacting with and supporting anti-Semitic and White supremacist content online.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, his attorneys contended that although the attack was cruel, it was motivated by \u201cnonsensical and irrational\u201d views rather than anti-Jewish animosity.<\/p>\n<p>Bowers\u2019 defense attorneys argued that because of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blm-cofounder-nuclear-family-for-me-not-for-thee\/\" title=\"BLM Cofounder: Nuclear Family for Me, Not for Thee\">severe mental illness<\/a>, including schizophrenia, he lacked the level of intent required to warrant the death penalty.
