Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Oftentimes, leftists\u2019 favorite response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-vetting-reporter-questions-ahead-of-briefings\/\" title=\"White House vetting reporter questions ahead of briefings\">conservative comment<\/a> is to scream about \u201ccontext\u201d at the top of their lungs.<\/h2>\n<p>The meaning, obviously, is that whatever point is being made is missing those ever-important missing contextual facts.<\/p>\n<p>Another bit of obviousness: As conservatism has wizened up to this new post-\u201cfact check\u201d landscape, those opportunities for \u201cmissing context\u201d accusations have rapidly dried up.<\/p>\n<p>So what are those on the left to do now?<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, if they can\u2019t weaponize it, they are content with just nuking the entire concept of \u201cmissing context\u201d altogether \u2014 and a dishonest smear attack from ESPN on Wednesday is a pretty blatant example of that new mindset.<\/p>\n<p>To set this up, Wednesday night was the network\u2019s annual ESPY Awards telecast.<\/p>\n<p>If you had no clue, that\u2019s quite alright, as the ESPYs might be the one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-more-ricky-ratings-for-woke-golden-globes-crash-spectacularly\/\" title=\"No More Ricky: Ratings For Woke Golden Globes Crash Spectacularly\">award show<\/a> in existence with less clout than the Grammys.<\/p>\n<p>But if you did happen to catch the ESPYs, you likely saw a fairly innocuous (if not eye-rollingly obnoxious) video clip touting how great the U.S. Women\u2019s National Team has been in terms of both its dominance on the soccer field and its championing of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/treasury-secretary-janet-yellen-we-have-to-consider-rising-inflation-rates-when-doing-stimulus-package\/\" title=\"Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen: \u2018We Have To Consider\u2019 Rising Inflation Rates When Doing Stimulus Package\">equal pay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The women received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, which honors a \u201cmember or group in the sporting world who makes a difference far beyond the field of play, impacting the world in indelible ways,\u201d according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>It was a classic bathroom break segment, but if you did stick around to watch it, you might have noticed Will Cain, a Fox News contributor, being targeted in the clip.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth pointing out that Cain worked for ESPN for years, oftentimes as the Disney-owned network\u2019s \u201ctoken\u201d conservative.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth pointing out that this smear attempt against Cain was \u2014 you guessed it \u2014 missing some ever-crucial context.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s part of the clip in question, as shared by conservative pundit Greg Price on Twitter:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">ESPN just smeared <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/willcain?\">@willcain<\/a> as a sexist at the ESPYs.<\/p>\n<p>When airing a video honoring the U.S. women\u2019s soccer team for their equal pay lawsuit, they included out of context remarks from an ESPN segment he did four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>They didn\u2019t include his full remarks because he\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1U2XvagJQW\">pic.twitter.com\/1U2XvagJQW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Price (@greg_price11) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1679324652311642112?\">July 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI think equal pay is a ridiculous concept in and of itself,\u201d Cain said in the actual ESPYs clip, hilariously while he was clearly on ESPN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nobody-spreads-it-more-glenn-greenwald-calls-msnbc-host-the-typhoid-mary-of-disinformation\/\" title=\"\u2018Nobody Spreads It More\u2019: Glenn Greenwald Calls MSNBC Host \u2018The Typhoid Mary Of Disinformation\u2019\">flagship morning show<\/a>, \u201cFirst Take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cain continued: \u201cSoccer, for better or worse, on the men\u2019s side, across this globe, is much more popular than the women\u2019s [soccer.]\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After viewers are told that women\u2019s soccer players \u201cget that argument all the time,\u201d the clip cuts to Cain again, but this time Price included the full context of Cain\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody wants to hear or know \u2014 tell you why it\u2019s like this,\u201d Cain said. \u201cNow there\u2019s two things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, when you talk about the bonus difference between the men\u2019s team and the women\u2019s team, between what a winner, if it had been the U.S. men, would get in the World Cup, and the women, the women got a pool, or got paid out from a pool, of $30 million from the women\u2019s World Cup. The men would draw from a pool of $400 million, OK? $400 million, $30 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is that? It\u2019s because the men\u2019s World Cup generates $6 billion in revenue. The men get paid out 7 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was around this point that Cain made the remarks seen at the ESPYs, and it\u2019s pretty shocking how brazen the sports network was with its duplicitous video editing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd by the way, I think equal pay is a ridiculous concept in and of itself,\u201d he said, again. \u201cIf the women generate more revenue, they should get paid more than the men. Don\u2019t strive for getting the same, strive for getting what you\u2019re worth, and if you\u2019re worth more, then get more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boy, that added context sure changes Cain\u2019s original comment, eh?<\/p>\n<p>As for the other part, where Cain suggests men\u2019s soccer is more popular than women\u2019s soccer (which it is), that comment wasn\u2019t missing too much context in and of itself, but certainly reads differently when you look at what he was saying before.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It\u2019s still true.<br \/>\nStill unpopular.<br \/>\nFull context.<br \/>\nFull truth.
