In a now-deleted Facebook post, Geiger cited her First Amendment rights and expressed her belief that transgender individuals should seek services at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-nail-salon-bans-service-for-transgender-people-after-supreme-court-ruling\/\" title=\"Michigan nail salon refuses service to transgender individuals following Supreme Court decision.\">local pet groomer<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;You are not welcome at this salon. Period. Should you request to have a particular pronoun used please note we may simply refer to you as &#8216;hey you.'&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This controversial statement comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on denying service to LGBT clients. The case, 303 Creative v. Elenis, saw a 6-3 decision in favor of a website designer who feared punishment under Colorado&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/retired-nfl-player-calls-for-separate-transgender-category-of-sports-after-biden-executive-order\/\" title=\"Retired NFL Player Calls For Separate Transgender Category Of Sports After Biden Executive Order\">anti-discrimination law<\/a> for refusing service to same-sex couples based on her Christian beliefs.<\/p>\n<h3>A Divisive Ruling<\/h3>\n<p>The Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blm-riots-dragged-democrats-down-in-2020-data-shows-but-peaceful-protests-helped-them\/\" title=\"BLM Riots Dragged Democrats Down In 2020, Data Shows \u2014 But Peaceful Protests Helped Them\">sparked intense debate<\/a>, with pro-LGBT advocacy groups criticizing the majority&#8217;s decision. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, leading the dissent, expressed concern over the court granting businesses the right to refuse service to protected classes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Today, the Court, for the first time in its history, grants a business open to the public a constitutional right to refuse to serve members of a protected class.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Geiger&#8217;s initial Facebook post gained significant attention online before being deleted. However, she later clarified her position in a subsequent post, stating that she would not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-salon-bans-service-for-transgender-people-after-supreme-court-ruling\/\" title=\"Michigan salon refuses service to transgender individuals following Supreme Court decision.\">serve transgender individuals due<\/a> to her unwillingness to cater to requests outside of what she perceives as normal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This stance was taken to ensure that clients have the best experience, and I am admitting that since I am not willing to play the pronoun game or cater to requests outside of what I perceive as normal, this probably isn&#8217;t the best option for that type of client.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Geiger&#8217;s comments have not gone unnoticed by Michigan&#8217;s Attorney General Dana Nessel, who has received several complaints related to the salon owner&#8217;s discriminatory statements. Nessel, a lesbian herself, has made it clear that the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling will not impact LGBT individuals in the state and that Michigan&#8217;s recently amended Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act remains in effect.<\/p>\n<p>Traverse City, where the salon is located, holds additional significance in relation to the LGBTQ+ community. It is the hometown of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg&#8217;s family and his husband. Buttigieg, the first openly gay member of a president&#8217;s Cabinet, has been a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.<\/p>\n<p>The Alliance Defending Freedom, representing Lorie Smith in the 303 Creative case, sees the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision as a victory for individuals from all walks of life. They argue that it protects the rights of an &#8220;LGBT graphic designer who doesn&#8217;t want to be forced to create art and promote messages that they disagree with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ruling, however, is limited to creative tasks and duties that are strictly expressive.
