The hearing was the first time Wray testified on the Hill since Republicans took control of the House.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz began his time for questioning by asking Wray about a WhatsApp message Hunter Biden allegedly sent to CEFC China Energy executive Henry Zhao in 2017. The message invoked Biden\u2019s father, then the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: 'Pipeline' to Obama Admin Seen as 'Currency'\">vice president<\/a> of the U.S., in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elizabeth-warren-calls-on-sec-to-investigate-potential-market-manipulation-cautions-against-internet-trading-schemes-a-flash-mob-with-money\/\" title=\"Elizabeth Warren Calls On SEC To Investigate Potential \u2018Market Manipulation,\u2019 Cautions Against \u2018Internet Trading Schemes,\u2019 \u2018A Flash Mob With Money\u2019\">apparent attempt<\/a> to pressure Zhao into making a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-biden-proposal-to-give-illegal-immigrants-1m-sounds-like-it-was-a-parody-created-by-gop\/\" title=\"McConnell: Biden proposal to give illegal immigrants M sounds like it was a parody created by GOP\">financial payment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight,\u201d Biden allegedly wrote. \u201cAnd, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After reading part of the message, Gaetz asked, \u201cSounds like a shakedown, doesn\u2019t it, director?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wray declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou seem deeply uncurious about it, don\u2019t you? Almost suspiciously uncurious. Are you protecting the Bidens?\u201d Gaetz pressed.<\/p>\n<p>Wray appeared offended at the question. \u201cAbsolutely not. In his testimony, Shapley alleged strange coincidences, decisions, and misconduct by the Department of Justice during the investigation.
