After Russia invaded Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) sought to fight supposed Russian influence on social media and levied the power of the FBI for its mission.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe SBU enlisted the FBI in support of this effort, transmitting to the FBI lists of social media accounts that allegedly \u2018spread Russian disinformation.\u2019 The FBI, in turn, routinely relayed these lists to the relevant social media platforms, which distributed the information internally to their employees in charge of content moderation and enforcement,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As reported in the Twitter Files, DOJ officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/a-judge-blocked-the-feds-from-meeting-with-social-media-giants-heres-how-the-government-colluded-with-big-tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regularly met<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/facebook-sued-by-muslim-civil-rights-group-over-hate-speech-claims\/\" title=\"Facebook Sued By Muslim Civil Rights Group Over Hate Speech Claims\">social media executives<\/a> at Meta, Twitter, Google, Microsoft, and others to discuss \u201cmisinformation\u201d spreading on the platforms and how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-tech-to-ban-parler-over-lack-of-content-moderation\/\" title=\"Big tech to ban Parler over lack of content moderation\">social media sites<\/a> could crack down on supposed untruthful speech. The new House committee report showed that the FBI flagged accounts and posts for social media companies at the behest of the SBU, including posts from \u201cauthentic accounts of Americans \u2026 a verified U.S. State Department account and those belonging to American journalists.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt times, the FBI would even follow up with the relevant platform to ensure that \u2018these accounts were taken down.\u2019 Regardless of its intended purpose in endorsing the SBU\u2019s requests, the FBI had no legal justification for facilitating the censorship of Americans\u2019 protected speech on social media,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As the FBI was coordinating with the SBU to censor Americans\u2019 speech, Russian actors who had reportedly infiltrated the Ukrainian agency could have been influencing decisions made by the agency, according to the House committee report. Last July, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of the SBU, citing dozens of cases of those under his authority working with Russian agents, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/ukraines-president-fires-security-service-chief-prosecutor-general-2022-07-17\/#:~:text=KYIV%2C%20July%2017%20(Reuters),by%20officials%20in%20their%20agencies.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Months before Zelensky\u2019s attempted crackdown on Russian agents within his intelligence team, an FBI agent sent an email to Meta in March 2022, specifying accounts that the SBU wanted the social media giant to censor, according to the report.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI have a few more Instagram and [Facebook] accounts that according to the SBU spread Russian disinformation. For your review and action as deemed appropriate,\u201d special agent Aleksandr Kobzanets wrote to a Meta employee on March 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1688648178298000&#038;usg=AOvVaw10v0UGh9BJZV8inaPuI6t7\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Kobzanets also attached two spreadsheets to his email, containing thousands of accounts and posts suspected of \u201cspread[ing] Russian disinformation.\u201d Most of the posts and accounts belonged to people living in Russia and Belarus, but accounts belonging to Americans were interspersed throughout the spreadsheets. Some of the American accounts included in the spreadsheet belonged to \u201ca photographer working with a studio in New York; a manager of a moving company in South Carolina; a musician and vocalist based in Minnesota; a professor at a university in California; and a children\u2019s book author living in Washington state,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The report added that it was unclear if the FBI took any steps to vet the lists of accounts and posts sent to them by the SBU. The FBI also forwarded lists of YouTube accounts that the SBU wanted to be censored, many of which were removed by the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter also received a list from the FBI, and the company\u2019s Head of Trust and Safety Yoel Roth warned that the list included American and Canadian journalists, writing to agent Kobzanets, \u201cAny additional information or context \u2026 is of course welcome and appreciated.\u201d But Kobzanets simply responded to Roth\u2019s concern by saying it was \u201c[u]nlikely there will be any additional information or context.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite revelations from the Twitter Files sparking widespread criticism of the Department of Justice\u2019s relationship with social media companies and a federal judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-judge-blocks-biden-officials-from-contacting-social-media-companies-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocking<\/a> numerous agencies from contacting Big Tech, the report said that it appears the \u201cFBI\u2019s cooperation with the SBU remains ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis report details misconduct by the FBI that is unconstitutional,\u201d the House committee report said. \u201cIt is also counterproductive to the professed aims of the Biden Administration regarding U.S. support for Ukraine, and it endangers our national security.
