On Friday, the sexual assault charges were dismissed by California Superior Court Judge Michael Leversen, who said there wasn\u2019t enough evidence to proceed to trial on the sex charges, the Orange County Register <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2023\/07\/07\/judge-throws-out-sexual-assault-charges-against-newport-beach-surgeon-and-girlfriend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Robicheaux and Riley still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-doctor-and-his-girlfriend-were-accused-of-sexual-assault-the-charges-were-just-dismissed\/\" title=\"Doctor and girlfriend cleared of sexual assault charges.\">face drug charges<\/a>, and the doctor has also been charged with possession of an assault weapon.<\/p>\n<h3>Controversial Case and New Investigation<\/h3>\n<p>In 2018, when the couple was first charged, then-district attorney Tony Rackauckas said during a press conference that investigators had \u201chundreds\u201d of videos taken from the couple\u2019s phones showing evidence that they had drugged and raped the women and then filmed the crimes. He was asked during that press conference whether the number could approach one thousand, and Rackauckas said, \u201cI think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rackauckas lost his re-election bid a few months later. The new DA, Todd Spitzer, decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/charges-dropped-against-couple-accused-of-drugging-raping-1000-women-prosecutor-says-predecessor-manufactured-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">re-investigate the case<\/a> after he saw an unsealed deposition from Rackauckas explaining that he hoped the case against Robicheaux and Riley would help him get re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA team of prosecutors with a combined 175 years of experience determined there is no provable evidence that Robicheaux and Riley committed any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nc-dem-senate-hopeful-backs-bill-enfranchising-violent-felons\/\" title=\"NC Dem Senate Hopeful Backs Bill Enfranchising Violent Felons\">sexual offense<\/a>,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/paypal-and-the-adl-are-hiding-their-partners-in-an-effort-to-fight-extremism\/\" title=\"PayPal and the ADL Are Hiding Their Partners in an Effort To Fight Extremism\">press release quoted<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/da-clears-grant-robicheaux-and-cerissa-riley-couple-accused-of-drugging-and-raping-women?ref=scroll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Beast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1688831213092000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1PLjNvPE9xhE43TkDJzri8\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The resulting investigation found no evidence to support the charges against the surgeon and his girlfriend. Further, Spitzer accused his predecessor of manufacturing the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prior District Attorney and his chief of staff manufactured this case and repeatedly misstated the evidence to lead the public and vulnerable women to believe that these two individuals plied up to 1,000 women with drugs and alcohol in order to sexually assault them\u2014and videotape the assaults,\u201d Spitzer said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of the complete case review I ordered beginning in July, we now know that there was not a single video or photograph depicting an unconscious or incapacitated woman being sexually assaulted,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Spitzer dropped the charges against the couple, but in June 2020, Orange County Superior Court Judge Gregory Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/socal\/daily-pilot\/news\/story\/2020-06-05\/judge-refuses-to-drop-newport-beach-surgeons-rape-case\">refused<\/a> to drop those charges, saying both Rackauckas and Spitzer had used the case to campaign against each other. Later that year, the Attorney General of California <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/07\/grant-robicheaux-cerissa-riley-sexual-assault-charges-dropped\/\">took over<\/a> the case.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2021, charges were dismissed relating to two of the seven women who had accused the couple of sexual assault.
