Pritzker<\/a> does with the bill, which only needs his signature to become law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilga.gov\/legislation\/billstatus.asp?DocNum=3751&#038;GAID=17&#038;GA=103&#038;DocTypeID=HB&#038;LegID=149009&#038;SessionID=112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 3751<\/a>, if signed, will enable non-citizen immigrants to serve as police officers \u2014 meaning they would have all the authority of citizen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-school-shooting-causes-district-reinstate-campus-police-officers-3-years-eliminating-woke-reasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police officers<\/a>, including the power to make arrests.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed in the state Senate in May and was sent to Pritzker on June 16 by the state House.<\/p>\n<p>It states that anyone who is in the country legally can pursue a job in law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Effective on Jan. 1, 2024, the bill says any \u201cindividual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law is authorized to apply for the position of police officer, subject to all requirements and limitations, other than citizenship, to which other applicants are subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker has not offered any indication he will not sign the bill into law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cities929.com\/2023\/05\/18\/illinois-democrats-seek-to-allow-noncitizens-to-be-police-officers-in-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WRPW-FM<\/a> in Colfax, Illinois, reported the bill has the support of state Democrats and the state Fraternal Order of Police.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic state Sen. Don Harmon of Oak Park said in May that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mexican-president-reveals-gop-candidate-not-want-win-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexican<\/a> non-citizen residents in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-attorney-general-taps-abolish-ice-activist-as-special-adviser\/\" title=\"NY Attorney General Taps \u2018Abolish ICE\u2019 Activist as Special Adviser\">law enforcement jobs<\/a> would be no different than Irish and Italian cops featured in the 1987 Al Capone-era crime film \u201cThe Untouchables.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to call you back to one of my favorites movies, the \u2018Untouchables,\u2019 and the dramatic entrance of the Sean Connery character as a grizzled Chicago police officer who spoke with a pronounced Irish brogue,\u201d Harmon stated.<\/p>\n<p>Harmon added, \u201cThere was a time when half the Chicago Police Department spoke with an Irish brogue, and they did not learn them in Chicago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state Senate president said, \u201cThis is about Americans today. This isn\u2019t about Irish born versus Mexican born, for instance, this is a much more fundamental question\u2026 I would ask you to look into your hearts and look into our history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-teacher-placed-on-administrative-leave-after-questioning-the-districts-equity-training-program\/\" title=\"Virginia Teacher Placed On \u2018Administrative Leave\u2019 After Questioning The District\u2019s Equity Training Program\">received significant pushback<\/a> from state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-republicans-gain-huge-power-obscure-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republican state Sen. Neil Anderson of Andalusia ripped into his Democratic colleagues over the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find this disturbing. I find it distasteful,\u201d he said. \u201cThe fact that we are passing a law that is predicated on federal law changing just shows where our priorities are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/chicago\/news\/migrants-law-enforcement-pritzkers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>, \u201cFederal law only allows U.S. citizens to serve as officers and deputies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That has not stopped Democrats in Illinois, nor did it stop them in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/retailers-horrified-radical-bill-passes-california-senate-warn-will-open-doors-shoplifters-loot-indiscriminately\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a> last year when they gave non-citizens the opportunity to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/major-sanctuary-state-close-to-allowing-non-citizen-police-to-arrest-us-citizens-in-defiance-of-federal-law\/\" title=\"Sanctuary state nears approval for non-citizen police to detain US citizens, defying federal law.\">join police forces<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning on Jan. 1 of this year, California began allowing anyone authorized to work in the country to work in law enforcement after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucdavis.edu\/news\/state-law-expands-eligibility-peace-officers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a similar bill<\/a> was supported by Democratic Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/revealed-major-free-pass-deadbeat-parents-included-newsoms-controversial-reparations-task-force-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gavin Newsom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/major-sanctuary-state-close-allowing-non-citizen-police-arrest-us-citizens-defiance-federal-law\/\">Major Sanctuary State Close to Allowing Non-Citizen Police to Arrest US Citizens in Defiance of Federal Law<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Americans in Illinois may soon be policed by non-citizens, pending Gov.
