The newly released movie shocked Hollywood industry insiders with its impressive box office numbers despite a lack of major promotion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSound of Freedom\u201d was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sound-of-freedom-takes-top-spot-at-box-office-on-fourth-of-july\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number one spot<\/a> at the U.S. box office on July 4, beating out Disney\u2019s highly-anticipated \u201cIndiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny\u201d and other huge releases during the 4th of July holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Bramesco won\u2019t even admit that success was valid. The reviewer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2023\/jul\/06\/sound-of-freedom-movie-qanon-jim-caviezel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d only outperformed \u201cIndiana Jones\u201d for a \u201cfleeting moment this past Fourth of July, while the intended audience of Indy\u2019s latest outing was presumably spending time with their families and friends at barbecues or in other social situations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further called the undeniably impressive box office ticket sales reports \u201cselective\u201d and as having \u201calmost willfully misleading framing\u201d to create a \u201cDavid-and-Goliath narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Box office earnings aside, it\u2019s hard to see how a formerly bipartisan issue such as working to end the horror of human trafficking could possibly be seen as primarily Right-wing, or as controversial in the slightest.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative commentator Jack Posobiec pointed out how The Guardian itself did an in-depth expose on child trafficking in 2018. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/global-development\/2018\/dec\/23\/child-sex-trafficking-rife-colombia-cartagena\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piece<\/a>, titled \u201cChild sex trafficking rife in Colombia\u2019s picturesque Cartagena,\u201d featured interviews with victims of the practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kansas-woman-who-led-all-female-isis-battalion-gets-20-years-in-prison\/\" title=\"Kansas Woman Who Led All-Female ISIS Battalion Gets 20 Years In Prison\">including teenage girls<\/a> who were kidnapped, raped, and otherwise abused.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Guardian ran a huge expos\u00e9 on child sex trafficking in Columbia in 2018<\/p>\n<p>Now they are saying it&#8217;s a conspiracy theory to watch a movie about child sex trafficking set in Columbia <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sQHVUpaKlM\">pic.twitter.com\/sQHVUpaKlM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jack Poso \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@JackPosobiec) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/1677297575227973632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 7, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Writer Mathew Charles described trafficking as the country\u2019s \u201cshameful problem\u201d that had become \u201cout of control\u201d in the city. The expose also highlighted the thriving sex tourism industry where younger victims fetched the highest prices. One interviewee said underage workers \u201cearn a lot more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClients pay more for them, but sometimes they can be scared. Often, they\u2019re given drugs first or lots of alcohol to get them drunk. I think it makes it easier,\u201d the 24-year-old sex worker explained.<\/p>\n<p>This coverage stands in stark contrast to the \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d review, which paints the panic over child sex trafficking as some kind of Right-wing conspiracy theory. Bramesco focuses much of his vitriol at the film\u2019s lead actor Jim Caviezel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if he did not literally have the face of Christ, Ballard would still exude an angelic aura as he gently hoists dirty-faced moppets out of peril with the gravely uttered catchphrase: \u2018God\u2019s children are not for sale,\u2019\u201d the Guardian reviewer writes of Caviezel\u2019s performance, referencing his former role as Jesus in Mel Gibson\u2019s \u201cThe Passion of the Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bromesco admits that the movie is solely about trafficking and doesn\u2019t delve into any fringe conspiracy theories. But the reviewer insists that \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d is a Trojan horse in that respect, implying that viewers are being tricked into believing more elaborate conspiracies just by accepting the film at face value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trafficking follows no motivation more elaborate than the servicing of rich predators, eliding all talk of body-part black markets and the precious organic biochemical of adrenochrome harvested as a Satanic key to eternal life,\u201d he writes. \u201cThe first rule of QAnon: you don\u2019t talk about QAnon where the normals can hear you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian reviewer next accuses \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d of \u201cprend[ing] to be a real movie\u201d just as he accuses crisis pregnancy centers, which offer mothers-to-be resources and prenatal care, of \u201cmasquerading\u201d as \u201cbona fide health clinic(s).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bromesco concludes by mocking Angel Studios for providing a QR code that would allow viewers to purchase tickets for other prospective attendees. He sees the whole thing as a shameless money grab rather than as a way for creators to find a creative way to spread the message.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian review of \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d is not common. Moviegoers are mostly stunned and moved by the effort by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Monteverde.<\/p>\n<p>Reviewer Aaron Gleason at The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/07\/sex-trafficking-drama-sound-of-freedom-is-a-heartbreaking-and-hopeful-call-to-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called the film<\/a> \u201ca heartbreaking and hopeful call to action.\u201d Unlike Bromesco, he believed the central aim of \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d creators was to inspire viewers to take action against these atrocities. Gleason notes how Caviezel gives a stunning performance, but ultimately it\u2019s the young actors who drive the message home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about the children \u2014 lost, invisible children who suffer in the depths of hell every single day. While the rich and powerful try to indoctrinate us with critical race theory and other ideological moralisms, true victims suffer in literal cages and chains,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n<p>Even more mainstream reviewers found the movie effective. A Variety <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/reviews\/sound-of-freedom-review-jim-caviezel-1235660035\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reviewer<\/a> said Caviezel \u201canchors\u201d this \u201csolidly made and disquieting thriller.\u201d They also wrote that while it\u2019s \u201cbeen sold as a \u2018conservative\u2019 thriller,\u201d you \u201cdon\u2019t need that mindset to find it compelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou needn\u2019t hold extreme beliefs to experience \u2018Sound of Freedom\u2019 as a compelling movie that shines an authentic light on one of the crucial criminal horrors of our time, one that Hollywood has mostly shied away from,\u201d Variety writer Owen Gleiberman concluded after stating he does not believe in Pizzagate.<\/p>\n<p>The movie currently has a 79% rating on movie review site Rotten Tomatoes and a 100% audience score.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, The Guardian released their own short film about child trafficking in June. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/video\/2023\/jun\/13\/sex-trafficking-the-fight-to-recover-indias-stolen-children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The hunt for India\u2019s stolen children<\/a>\u201d tells the shocking story of teens and younger children who go missing in the Sundarbans, a mangrove forest located in India\u2019s Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-minute video has many of the same elements as \u201cSound of Freedom.\u201d There are survivors who recount some of the horrors they experienced after being drugged, kidnapped, and gang raped. At one point, a non-profit coordinator admits that at least one victim was kidnapped specifically for traffickers to sell their blood.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian\u2019s video also features police staging a rescue of two sisters who were trafficked to another region and sold as sex slaves. Viewers could argue that their story was a shorter version of Agent Ballard\u2019s quest to reunite trafficked siblings.<\/p>\n<p>The major difference between \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d and \u201cIndia\u2019s stolen children\u201d is the framing. The Guardian\u2019s expose blames trafficking on poverty in the region that\u2019s exacerbated by climate change, which has caused the already impoverished region to become poorer and less stable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sundarbans is the world\u2019s largest mangrove forest and one of the most climate vulnerable locations on the planet,\u201d the video description says. \u201cClimate change has taken an enormous toll on the rainforest in recent years, repeatedly uprooting families and decimating the incomes of residents who have traditionally relied heavily on agriculture and fishing for their livelihoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, repeated natural disasters and environmental changes to the region have created a highly vulnerable population increasingly at risk of participating in or becoming victims of child trafficking,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n<p>Ending child trafficking is still a topic leftists will champion.
