He emphasized the need to address the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twitter-deletes-president-trumps-tweets-threatens-permanent-suspension\/\" title=\"Twitter deletes President Trump\u2019s tweets, threatens permanent suspension\">security concerns<\/a> that allowed the illegal drug to bypass security measures.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-republicans-launch-investigation-into-white-house-cocaine\/\" title=\"GOP launches probe into White House cocaine scandal.\">alarming development requires<\/a> the Committee to assess White House security practices and determine whose failures led to an evacuation of the building and finding of the illegal substance,\u201d Comer <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/White-House-Secret-Service-Letter-Briefing-request-070723.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cThe presence of illegal drugs in the White House is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the White House\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Comer highlighted the committee&#8217;s authority to investigate &#8220;any matter&#8221; at &#8220;any time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cCongress funds White House security procedures, and the Secret Service has a responsibility to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shameful-top-republican-announces-investigation-into-cocaine-at-white-house\/\" title=\"GOP Launches Probe Into Cocaine Presence at White House: A Disgrace\">maintain effective safety protocols<\/a>. This incident and the eventual evacuation of staff now clearly raises concerns about the level of security maintained at the White House,\u201d Comer <strong>said<\/strong> in a statement. \u201cThe Committee has oversight jurisdiction over USSS operations, and I look forward to additional information from Director Cheatle.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Comer requested Cheatle to schedule a briefing with the committee regarding the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The cocaine, which was discovered on Sunday, was reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cocaine-in-white-house-was-in-different-location-than-previously-reported-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found inside a cubby<\/a> near the White House\u2019s West Executive entrance. Initial reports stated that the cocaine was found in a reference lobby, but officials later claimed it was found in a West Wing \u201cwork area.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Sen. Tom Cotton Calls for More Information<\/h3>\n<p>Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-to-secret-service-release-information-about-cocaine-found-in-white-house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demanded<\/a> more information from Cheatle regarding the investigation. In a letter, Cotton expressed the need for Congress to be informed about any security flaws within the White House complex and the Secret Service&#8217;s plan to address them.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton, who requested a response by July 14, also inquired about the discovery of any other drugs in the past year and the frequency of security practice audits conducted by the Secret Service.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIllegally possessing cocaine is a crime under federal law.
