RIP brother God Speed,\u201d Schon wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He included a cross emoji as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jordan-neely-death-witness-steps-forward-new-information-says-praying-charged-marine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">praying<\/a> hands emoji.<\/p>\n<p>No cause of death for the late guitarist was announced.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Journey Junkies, I have some very sad news<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cGEORGE TICKER, Journey\u2019s original rhythm guitarist and songwriting contributor on their first three albums, has passed away. He was 76 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGodspeed, George\u2026thank you for the music. The reason he left Journey was to attend Stanford University on full Scholarship, earning his Ph.D. Fly free above the stars, Sir\u2026 Herbie\u2019s waiting to greet you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Journey was formed in 1973 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/san-francisco-officials-open-investigation-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco<\/a> by Tickner, Schon, and other former members of the band Santana.<\/p>\n<p>Tickner was picked up from a psychedelic rock band called Frumious Bandersnatch from near Berkeley, California.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of Tickner, the group initially launched as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heartbreaking-journey-co-founder-songwriter-dies-at-76\/\" title=\"Tragic: Journey Co-Founder, Songwriter Passes at 76.\">progressive rock band<\/a> and began to find its identity.<\/p>\n<p>Tickner\u2019s contributions can be heard on the group\u2019s self-titled album and heavily on the band\u2019s first track release \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hc_q_zb7nts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Of a Lifetime<\/a>,\u201d which was cited by Schon as one of his personal favorites.<\/p>\n<p>Tickner left Journey and music altogether for a time prior to the addition of singer Steve Perry in order <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2023\/07\/george-tickner-founding-journey-guitarist-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to pursue<\/a> an education at Stanford Medical School on a scholarship, <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2023\/07\/george-tickner-founding-journey-guitarist-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Consequence of Sound<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>He continued to play music as a hobbyist throughout his life and as Journey achieved major commercial success.<\/p>\n<p>Tickner was present in 2005 as Journey was <a href=\"https:\/\/walkoffame.com\/journey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awarded<\/a> a star on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/artist-trolls-liberals-vandal-destroys-trumps-star\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hollywood Walk of Fame<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/heartbreaking-journey-co-founder-songwriter-dies-76\/\">&#8216;Heartbreaking&#8217;: Journey Co-Founder, Songwriter Dies at 76<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>confirmed the passing of George Tickner, a co-founder of Journey.
