Playing back the video, Wagner was shocked: As the car whizzed past, the pole was separating from the main structure, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbtv.com\/2023\/07\/02\/fury-325-shut-down-vistors-noticed-crack-famous-park-ride\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WBTV-TV<\/a> in Charlotte reported Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the car came by, I saw it move,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Wagner immediately contacted park security, showed them the video and told them to shut down the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-one-dead-others-wounded-nightmare-roller-coaster-derailment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">roller coaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unsure if park officials would take immediate action, Wagner wasted no time \u2013 he called the fire department, later learning the ride had been closed as a result of his video.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/accident-six-flags-intense-el-toro-roller-coaster-injures-13-riders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tragedy was avoided<\/a> in the midst of Carowinds\u2019 50th anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Following the shutdown, the park said in a statement to WBTV that maintenance workers were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/13-people-left-stranded-ride-3-hours-roller-coaster-gets-stuck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inspecting the problem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarowinds today closed Fury 325 after park personnel became aware of a crack at the top of a steel support pillar,\u201d the park said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe park\u2019s maintenance team is conducting a thorough inspection and the ride will remain closed until repairs have been completed. \u2026 As part of our comprehensive safety protocols, all rides, including Fury 325, undergo daily inspections to ensure their proper functioning and structural integrity,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>But there lies a problem \u2014 WBTV reported it received a photo of the crack from Tiffany Newton that had a timestamp indicating it had been taken at least seven days before Wagner saw the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Following Wagner\u2019s discovery, his daughter Caroline, who repeatedly rode Fury 325, said, \u201cI\u2019m really surprised that someone from the parking lot had to get that crack because I feel like the employees should\u2019ve gotten it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inquiries to the park from WBTV on why inspections failed to discover the crack got no comment.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NationalRideOperatorDay?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NationalRideOperatorDay<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Carowinds?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Carowinds<\/a> is thankful for our hardworking ride operators who ensure guests have a safe and fun experience on all of the park\u2019s rides and attractions.<\/p>\n<p>Show your appreciation for our ride operators by tweeting their name, location and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CaroWIN?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#CaroWIN<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9N4QFy2lH2\">pic.twitter.com\/9N4QFy2lH2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Carowinds (@Carowinds) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Carowinds\/status\/1674816014976966656?\">June 30, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gary Kilpatrick, a North Carolina engineer and amusement ride expert, said the crack could have come from defective materials or welding or from fatigue from continued use, according to a report Tuesday by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbtv.com\/2023\/07\/04\/expert-several-factors-could-have-caused-crack-carowinds-rollercoaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WBTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen these machines go through this cycle of stress over and over again, that\u2019s what we as engineers call fatigue stresses, and over time if you have a problem in some area, it will manifest itself in a form of a failure like that,\u201d Kilpatrick said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Step up &#038;
