(Photo by SAUL LOEB\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/noah-herring\">Noah Herring<\/a><br \/>10:59 AM \u2013 Wednesday, July 5, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>A Trump-appointed judge prohibited several federal agencies and officials of the Biden administration from working with social media companies to censor First amendment-protected free speech on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty of Louisiana ruled that Biden administration officials overstepped in its efforts to convince social media companies to censor posts that could result in vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic or that it could affect elections. The lawsuit was brought forward by the attorneys general (AGs) of Missouri and Louisiana in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ruling halts a number of federal agencies and officials from \u201curging, encouraging, pressuring, or inducing in any manner the removal, deletion, suppression, or reduction of content containing protected free speech\u201d on social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also restrains officials from \u201cthreatening, pressuring, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/miranda-devine-the-medias-silence-on-the-twitter-files-is-shameful\/\" title=\"Miranda Devine: The Media\u2019s Silence on the \u201cTwitter Files\u201d Is Shameful\">coercing social media companies<\/a> in any manner\u201d to suppress what they deem \u201cdisinformation\u201d protected as free speech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Doughty cited that there was \u201csubstantial evidence\u201d of a censorship campaign from the Biden administration, claiming that the \u201cevidence produced thus far depicts an almost dystopian scenario.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, a period perhaps best characterized by widespread doubt and uncertainty, the United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian \u2018Ministry of Truth,\u2019\u201d Doubt said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), who was the Missouri attorney general at the time of the lawsuit, said that the ruling was a \u201chuge win for the First Amendment and a blow to censorship.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said that the ruling prevents the Biden administration from \u201ccensoring the core political speech of ordinary Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe evidence in our case is shocking and offensive with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-delivers-major-blow-to-biden-admin-in-social-media-censorship-case\/\" title=\"Judge deals blow to Biden admin in social media censorship case.\">senior federal officials deciding<\/a> that they could dictate what Americans can and cannot say on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other platforms about COVID-19, elections, criticism of the government, and more,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 BREAKING NEWS \ud83d\udea8 federal judge blocks key Biden officials from pressuring or conspiring with social media companies to suppress any content containing protected free speech on their platforms <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/30HpkKSjVm\">pic.twitter.com\/30HpkKSjVm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AG Jeff Landry (@AGJeffLandry) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AGJeffLandry\/status\/1676305815655837696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 4, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>An anonymous White House official who was not allowed to discuss the case publicly stated that the Justice Department is reviewing the injunction \u201cand will evaluate its options in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis administration has promoted responsible actions to protect public health, safety, and security when confronted by challenges like a deadly pandemic and foreign attacks on our elections,\u201d the anonymous official said. \u201cOur consistent view remains that social media platforms have a critical responsibility to take account of the effects their platforms are having on the American people, but make independent choices about the information they present.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ruling specifically listed several government agencies including the Department of Health, Human Services, and the FBI. Several officials were named as well including Health and Human Services Secretary, Xavier Becerra, and Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>Several exceptions were allowed by Doughty like informing social media companies of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-blocks-biden-administration-from-working-with-social-media-companies\/\" title=\"Judge halts Biden Administration's collaboration with social media firms.\">posts involving criminal activity<\/a> and conspiracies, as well as notifying the companies of national security threats posted on their platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also touched on censoring topics about election integrity and information regarding Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop.<\/p>\n<p>Administration lawyers denied coercing with social media companies claiming that they left it up to them to decide what constituted misinformation and how to combat it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
