But the test by AAA revealed that came at the expense of the battery\u2019s range.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>AAA tested the F-150 Lightning by loading it with 1,400 pounds of sandbags \u2014 which is actually short of its maximum hauling capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The test revealed that the truck\u2019s range dropped from 278 miles to 210 miles, a reduction of <strong>24.5 percent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The F-150 Lightning used in the test is officially rated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tried-kill-wood-burning-stove-environmental-concerns-entire-campaign-collapses-truth-comes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Protection Agency<\/a> to have a range of 300 miles.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/huge-drawback-of-electric-trucks-revealed-as-ford-lightning-loses-25-of-range-with-full-payload\/\" title=\"Ford Lightning Electric Truck Loses 25% Range with Full Payload: Major Drawback Exposed.\">advertised driving range discrepancy<\/a> and the weight test could see owners of these trucks lose 90 miles in the range advertised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ford-axes-hundreds-engineers-employees-electric-vehicle-transition-proves-costly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ford<\/a> simply by hooking up their trailers and hitting the road.<\/p>\n<h3>AAA&#8217;s Evaluation and Insights<\/h3>\n<p>Greg Brannon, the director of AAA Automotive Engineering, issued a comment about the evaluation of the truck in <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.aaa.com\/2023\/06\/evs-the-heavier-the-load-the-shorter-the-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur testing revealed a significant range reduction, but it\u2019s important to note that the Lightning was loaded to near its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/andrew-cuomos-5-worst-moves-as-new-yorks-governor\/\" title=\"Andrew Cuomo\u2019s 5 Worst Moves As New York\u2019s Governor\">maximum capacity<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Brannon offered a silver lining for prospective drivers who don\u2019t intend to load up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost buyers will likely use their Lightning with a lighter load, resulting in a much smaller range reduction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ford lists the Lightning\u2019s maximum payload as 2,235 pounds with the standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-learns-needs-new-ev-battery-hit-30000-price-tag-car\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV battery<\/a> and 1,952 pounds with an extended-range battery, the Verge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/6\/6\/23749844\/ford-f150-lightning-payload-range-loss-aaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AAA said those numbers can vary, depending on each truck\u2019s individual accessories.<\/p>\n<p>While the driving range of both gasoline and electric vehicles is influenced by weight, AAA acknowledged that for now, refueling with gasoline is more convenient than stopping to recharge an EV battery.<\/p>\n<p>The organization predicted there will be advancements in EV battery technology but also noted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/electric-state-expected-ban-sale-new-gasoline-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gasoline<\/a>-powered F-150 can get 500 miles out of a full tank.<\/p>\n<p>AAA advised prospective buyers to consider their driving needs and choose the appropriate vehicle for them.<\/p>\n<p>The group also cautioned, \u201cIn the case of battery electric pickups used as work vehicles, permanent loads (such as equipment racks, toolboxes, and equipment trays built into the vehicle) will reduce the range at all times, even without additional cargo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/huge-drawback-electric-trucks-revealed-ford-lightning-loses-25-range-full-payload\/\">Huge Drawback of Electric Trucks Revealed as Ford Lightning Loses 25% of Range with Full Payload<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ford F-150 Lightning, America&#8217;s top-selling truck, experienced a 25% decrease in driving range when fully loaded with cargo, as per AAA&#8217;s recent test.
