causes bodily injury or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cuomo-faces-new-sexual-harassment-suit-after-recent-legal-victories\/\" title=\"Cuomo Faces New Sexual Harassment Suit After Recent Legal Victories\">severe mental anguish<\/a> to another individual; uses force or violence on another individual; damages, destroys, or defaces any real, personal, digital, or online property of another individual; or threatens, by word or act, to do any of the above-described actions, if the person, regardless of the existence of any other motivating factors, intentionally targets the individual or engages in the action based in whole or in part on any of the following actual or perceived characteristics of another individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill then rattles off a number of characteristics that are to be safeguarded from verbal vitriol, and it notably includes \u201csexual orientation\u201d and \u201cgender identity or expression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill also directly mentions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/another-boycott-brewing-tony-tiger-poses-dylan-mulvaney-red-carpet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transgenderism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Gender identity or expression\u2019 means having or being perceived as having a gender-related self-identity or expression whether or not associated with an individual\u2019s assigned sex at birth,\u201d the bill states.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also goes on to define \u201cintimidate or harass\u201d as \u201cwillful course of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-hate-speech-bill-would-make-it-a-felony-to-cause-someone-to-feel-threatened\/\" title=\"Michigan's proposed hate speech bill criminalizes causing others to feel threatened, potentially resulting in felony charges.\">conduct involving repeated<\/a> or continuing harassment of another individual that would cause a reasonable individual to feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated, threatened, harassed, or molested and that actually causes the victim to feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated, threatened, harassed, or molested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If one is found in violation of using words that cause \u201cthe victim to feel terrorized,\u201d the punishment is steep \u2014 certainly steeper than compared to, say, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nyc-crackdown-shoplifting-makes-easier-first-time-offender-thieves-will-kiosks-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shoplifting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If found guilty, a person will be charged with \u201ca felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or by a fine of not more than $10,000.00, or both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking the various bits and piece of that verbiage, it\u2019s easy to see why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/aoc-blocks-comedian-twitter-might-last-laugh-filing-first-amendment-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First Amendment<\/a> enthusiasts are concerned about this drastic move from Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Proponents of the bill point to the specific \u201crepeated or continuing\u201d phrase in the bill as a way to quell fears of attacks on the First Amendment. No, you won\u2019t (or shouldn\u2019t, at least) go to jail or be fined five figures for getting someone\u2019s gender wrong at first blush.<\/p>\n<p>But \u201crepeated and continuing\u201d doesn\u2019t account for something like this very distinct possibility: Will Michigan insist on jailing a pastor who refuses to recognize pronoun preferences on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/becerra-tells-congress-this-individual-never-sued-any-nuns-despite-californias-small-sisters-of-the-indegent-lawsuit\/\" title=\"Becerra Tells Congress This individual \u2018Never Sued Any Nuns\u2019 Despite California\u2019s Small Sisters Of THE INDEGENT Lawsuit\">religious grounds<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Where does HB4474 end and religious freedom begin?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an absolute legal and moral quagmire that is on the verge of being reality in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>After passing the House, the bill now goes the Michigan state Senate. Given that both of Michigan\u2019s House and Senate are made of up of a majority of Democrats, the bill has a very good chance of ending up on Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>Republican lawmakers have largely derided the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state of Michigan is now explicitly allowing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-hate-speech-bill-would-make-it-a-felony-to-make-someone-feel-threatened\/\" title=\"Michigan's proposed hate speech bill criminalizes causing someone to feel threatened, potentially resulting in a felony charge.\">gender delusion issue<\/a> to be used as a \u2018protected class.\u2019 This opens up numerous issues when it comes to the courts and the continued weaponization of the system against conservatives,\u201d state Rep. Angela Rigas said about the bill, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/michigan-house-passes-bill-using-wrong-pronouns-felony-fineable-10000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreats and violence and things of that nature and protecting against crime is certainly something that we absolutely should be doing in Michigan. But we shouldn\u2019t be building that around an individual\u2019s feelings of being frightened,\u201d state Rep. Steve Carra told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/detroit\/news\/hate-crimes-bill-passes-the-michigan-house-republicans-voice-concerns-over-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WWJ-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carra added: \u201cScrap this bill.
