The chatbot will assist students, but a professor will still be the main instructor in the course.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Revolutionizing Education with AI<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur own hope is that, through AI, we can eventually approximate a 1:1 teacher:student ratio for every student in CS50, as by providing them with software-based tools that, 24\/7, can support their learning at a pace and in a style that works best for them individually,\u201d Professor David Malan, who instructs CS50, told the newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The AI chatbot will answer questions, assist in finding bugs in students\u2019 code, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ai-chatbot-to-help-teach-intro-course-at-harvard-this-fall\/\" title=\"AI Chatbot to Teach Intro Course at Harvard This Fall\">explain coding error messages<\/a>, Malan told the paper. The chatbot will be \u201csimilar in spirit\u201d to ChatGPT and help both professors and students, the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/30\/harvard-to-roll-out-ai-professors-in-flagship-coding-class-for-fall-semester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>. Instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/four-radical-democrat-proposals-you-may-have-missed-this-year\/\" title=\"Four Radical Democrat Proposals You May Have Missed This Year\">simply handing<\/a> the answer to students, Malan insists the tech will be \u201cleading students toward an answer\u201d and won\u2019t give \u201coutright solutions.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The answers the chatbot gives students can also be reviewed by human course staff, the newspaper says. This feature is in its beta testing stage during the summer course.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Emphasizing Ethics and Excellence<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Malan conceded that artificial intelligence does make cheating easier and more anonymous for students, but says that using technology to cheat is nothing new. \u201cBetter, then, to weave all the more emphasis on ethics into a course so that students learn, through guidance, how to navigate these new waters,\u201d Malan said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The course has always implemented software, Malan says, but the addition of artificial intelligence is an \u201cevolution of that tradition.\u201d Not everyone thinks this evolution is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-ga-voter-turnout-low-on-election-day\/\" title=\"Report: Ga. voter turnout low on election day\">good thing<\/a>, though. Martin Rand, co-founder and CEO of software company PactumAI, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ivy-league-university-teach-students-ai-chatbot-fall-evolution-tradition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> of the downsides of the new development at Harvard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI would say the dangers are that we have to consider that these are statistical models. These will come up with most probable answers and high probability can also mean mediocrity,\u201d Rand told Fox in an interview. \u201cSo professors need to be there to provide exceptionalism, and I think Harvard has taken the right approach in providing this only to introductory courses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Continuous Improvement and Critical Thinking<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Malan said he doesn\u2019t expect the chatbot to be without issues in the fall semester, telling the Crimson that it will \u201cunderperform or even err.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-united-states-and-china-trade-blows-at-alaska-talks-what-you-need-to-know\/\" title=\"The United States And China Trade Blows At Alaska Talks: What You Need To Know\">\u2019ll make clear<\/a> to students that they should always think critically when taking in information as input, be it from humans or software,\u201d Malan said, adding that the technology will continue to improve with student and faculty feedback. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harvard University plans to introduce an AI chatbot as an instructor for its CS50 coding course.
