Trujillo\u2019s father says that his son was shot seven times.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEvidently he was in the wrong place,\u201d Anthony Trujillo <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-scholar-killed-mexico-7c1509d5639f9dcadef132a46c379b60\">stated<\/a> as he prepared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-stealth-makeover-could-it-save-the-a-10-warthog\/\" title=\"A Stealth Makeover \u2013 Could It Save the A-10 Warthog?\">fly back home<\/a> from Mexico with his son\u2019s remains. Trujillo drove through Arizona and across the southern border into Nogales on June 17th to study the common buttonbush, a flowering shrub.<\/p>\n<p>Trujillo kept in contact with his father and his fiance on the 18th but then stopped responding to messages and calls during the day of the 19th. His fiance flew down to the area after she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/search-and-rescue-teams-at-site-of-indonesian-plane-crash\/\" title=\"Search and rescue teams at site of Indonesian plane crash\">lost contact<\/a> and heard from his Airbnb hosts that Trujillo had left his belongings but had not returned.<\/p>\n<p>The Sonora state prosecutor\u2019s office explained that it is reviewing evidence in order to \u201cestablish the facts, conditions, and causes of the death.\u201d It did not, however, label the death a homicide or provide any other additional information about the nature of his tragic death.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Sonora, which shares its border with Arizona, is frequently used by the cartels and has several drug and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federales-refuse-to-charge-alleged-human-traffickers-in-cancun\/\" title=\"Federales Refuse to Charge Alleged Human Traffickers in Cancun\">human smuggling routes<\/a>. The area has been racked with <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/90d478d46e1d45bda0d969e9b517828c\">violence<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-phd-student-killed-in-mexico-while-on-research-trip\/\" title=\"California PhD student murdered in Mexico during research trip.\">cartel gunmen killing<\/a> three American women and their six children in 2019.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trujillo\u2019s family begged him not to go to Sonora, citing concerns for his safety, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-scholar-killed-mexico-7c1509d5639f9dcadef132a46c379b60\">reported<\/a>.
