But now the Warner Bros. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/even-film-critics-are-hating-on-leonardo-dicaprios-new-climate-change-movie-smug-shrill-obvious-satire\/\" title=\"Even Film Critics Are Hating On Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s New Climate Change Movie: \u2018Smug, Shrill, Obvious Satire\u2019\">film won\u2019<\/a>t be able to count on any revenue from the country, per <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/barbie-banned-vietnam-movie-warner-bros-1235660317\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Variety<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The issue is that \u201cBarbie\u201d includes a scene with the U-shaped \u201cnine-dash line\u201d in the South China Sea. This region has been a point of contention between Vietnam and China for years. The line is shown on Chinese maps to indicate their claims over the area despite <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/vietnam\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vietnam<\/span><\/a>, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, and Taiwan claiming parts of the same maritime area.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe do not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nearly-half-of-nycs-public-school-grads-require-remedial-courses-in-college\/\" title=\"Nearly Half of NYC's Public School Grads Require Remedial Courses in College\">grant license<\/a> for the American movie \u2018Barbie\u2019 to release in Vietnam because it contains the offending image of the nine-dash line,\u201d Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Department of Cinema, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/parents-furious-after-school-official-uses-their-kids-in-photo-to-defend-schools-staying-closed\/\" title=\"Parents Furious After School Official Uses Their Kids In Photo To Defend Schools Staying Closed\">government body<\/a> in charge of licensing and censoring foreign films, was quoted as saying in the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBarbie\u201d isn\u2019t the first film banned for including the nine-dash line. The Vietnamese government also blocked the DreamWorks animated film \u201cAbominable\u201d (2019) and the action-adventure film \u201cUnchartered\u201d (2022) for the same reason. Netflix removed the Australian spy drama \u201cPine Gap\u201d in 2021 for their inclusion of the line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Details about the plot of the \u201cBarbie\u201d movie have been kept under wraps ever since the project was announced. Gosling <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ryan-gosling-recalls-weird-sign-he-was-meant-to-play-ken-in-barbie-movie\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">joked<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that Mattel would \u201cbox [him] up\u201d if he revealed any details before the premiere. Earlier this year, Simu Liu (Ken #2) called the film \u201cwild\u201d and \u201cincredibly unique.\u201d He said, \u201cI wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it\u2019s crazy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPeople don\u2019t have any idea what to expect [with the film], and I think that that\u2019s the right vibe,\u201d actress America Ferrera (Gloria) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/barbie-movie-everything-to-know\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">told<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> People magazine. \u201cWhatever you think it is, it\u2019s not that.
