He made these remarks following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/baltimore-block-party-shooting-two-dead-dozens-injured\/\" title=\"Two killed, many injured in Baltimore block party shooting.\">block party shooting<\/a> that resulted in two deaths and numerous injuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Mayor Scott&#8217;s Perspective<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;When we discuss mass shootings in this country, the focus is often on schools in rural or suburban white communities,&#8221; Scott stated in an interview with CNN. &#8220;However, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-charged-for-hacking-ring-doorbells-and-using-them-to-taunt-police\/\" title=\"Two Charged For Hacking Ring Doorbells And Using Them To Taunt Police\">similar incidents occur<\/a> in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, or D.C., they don&#8217;t receive the same level of attention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mayor Scott emphasized the importance of recognizing that black American lives, including the lives of children, matter just as much as anyone else&#8217;s. He called for equal treatment and attention for all victims of mass shootings or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/baltimore-mayor-criticizes-attention-given-to-suburban-white-community-after-mass-shooting\/\" title=\"Baltimore mayor slams focus on 'suburban white' community post mass shooting.\">murders involving illegal firearms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot allow the sanctity of American guns to outweigh the sanctity of American lives, especially the lives of our children,&#8221; Scott asserted. &#8220;This is a change that we must strive for as a nation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The mayor clarified that he is not advocating for the removal of gun rights but rather for stricter regulations to prevent young individuals from easily obtaining firearms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one is suggesting that people should be denied their right to bear arms. However, it should not be easier for a young person to acquire a gun than for me to purchase allergy medication from a local pharmacy,&#8221; Scott explained.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the recent block party shooting, no arrests have been made yet. When questioned about his ability to gain the trust and support of the Baltimore community, Scott disagreed with the notion that his government lacked the people&#8217;s trust. He highlighted the city&#8217;s efforts towards reform, particularly in the aftermath of the Freddie Gray unrest.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Mayor Scott&#8217;s Response to Trust Concerns<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We have been actively working with the Department of Justice and other agencies to implement necessary reforms,&#8221; Scott stated. &#8220;Under the leadership of former Police Commissioner Michael Harrison and now Commissioner Richard Worley, we have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/standoff-between-chicago-public-schools-and-teachers-continues\/\" title=\"Standoff between Chicago Public Schools and teachers continues\">made significant progress<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the recent violence, Baltimore has seen a 20% reduction in homicides and a decrease in nonfatal shootings, according to Mayor Scott.
