Now He\u2019s Suing.\">affirmative action<\/a> are \u201cover\u201d following the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling last week that two colleges that were using race as a determining factor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mike-pence-the-days-of-needing-affirmative-action-are-over\/\" title=\"Mike Pence: Affirmative Action is no longer necessary.\">admissions process acted illegally<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pence made the remarks during an ABC News interview on \u201cThis Week\u201d with host Jonathan Karl.<\/p>\n<h3>Is a Decrease in Black and Hispanic Students a Problem?<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cBut if the end result is that America\u2019s most selective colleges and universities have fewer Black and Hispanic students, is that a problem for America?\u201d Karl asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, look, I think I couldn\u2019t be more proud of the progress we\u2019ve made toward a more perfect union in my lifetime, the Civil Rights Acts in the 1960s,\u201d Pence said. \u201cAnd I think there was a time for affirmative action, Jon, were to open the doors of our colleges and universities to minority students and particularly African Americans who may have been denied access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think those days are over,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou know, it was Justice Sandra Day O\u2019Connor who more than 20 years ago, said that she thought affirmative action would go away in 25 years, it went away a little sooner than that. And I think that\u2019s a tribute to our minority students. We\u2019ve \u2013 we\u2019ve seen what has happened in nine states that have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-reparations-task-force-tries-to-revive-discrimination-idea-voters-rejected\/\" title=\"Californian task force revives rejected discrimination idea for reparations.\">banned affirmative action<\/a>. We\u2019ve seen in Michigan and California and Florida that after affirmative action was done away with, the result was that you saw fewer Hispanic and black students at their elite universities. So, again, my question to you, if that is the result here, is that a concern? Is that a concern for you?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>PENCE: I just \u2013 look, I \u2013 I haven\u2019t seen your studies. I don\u2019t know the numbers. First job I ever had was as an admissions counselor at the college I graduated from. And all \u2013 I\u2019m \u2013 I\u2019m just very confident with the progress that we have made now in 2023, a fourth of the way through the 21st century, the achievements of African Americans, leaving aside the \u2013 the achievements of the first African American president, and African Americans all across the country. I\u2019m just \u2013 I\u2019m just very confident that African Americans, Hispanic Americans and other minorities are going to be able to compete and succeed.
