It allows us to move closer to bringing people an environmentally friendly and faster commute, saving individuals and companies hours each week. This is a one small step for planes, one giant step for cars,\u201d said Jim Dukhovny, Alef Aeronautics CEO.<\/p>\n<p>The release noted that this is \u201cthe first time a vehicle of this nature has received legal approval to fly from the U.S. government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cnature\u201d of this vehicle is certainly the stuff of science fiction movies.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicles, aptly named \u201celectrical vertical takeoff and landing\u201d vehicles are exactly what they sound like \u2014 fully electric cars that can maintain some low-level elevation.<\/p>\n<p>In theory, this certainly sounds like the breakthrough every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/star-wars-fan-seems-discover-hidden-bible-verse-prop-episode-mandalorian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Wars fan<\/a> has ever dreamed of.<\/p>\n<p>In practice? There are a few more hurdles to overcome here.<\/p>\n<h3>Challenges Ahead<\/h3>\n<p>First and foremost, these vehicles simply won\u2019t be widespread due to the cost of them.<\/p>\n<p>In short, most Americans would have to choose between buying a house or an eVTOL vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>According to Alef\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/alef.aero\/preorder.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-sister-appears-to-capitalize-on-his-position-with-book-deal\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Sister Appears To Capitalize On His Position With Book Deal\">pre-order page<\/a><\/a>, the \u201cexpected price\u201d of its flying cars is a cool $299,999. (\u201cGeneral queue\u201d pre-orders begin at $150, and \u201cpriority queue\u201d pre-orders begin at $1,500.)<\/p>\n<p>Second, even if you had $300,000 burning a hole in your wallet, the news release makes it clear that eVTOL vehicles will not be granted unbridled freedom in the skies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Flying car by California startup Alef attracts early Tesla investor <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GGM5GU83Fc\">https:\/\/t.co\/GGM5GU83Fc<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/E0puCnsjTd\">pic.twitter.com\/E0puCnsjTd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Reuters (@Reuters) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Reuters\/status\/1582910974004191232?\">October 20, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Exploring New Frontiers<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA is actively working on its policies for electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, as well as governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure,\u201d the release said. \u201cAlef\u2019s Special Airworthiness Certificate therefore limits the locations and purpose for which Alef is permitted to fly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Third, as exciting as the prospects of flying in a car may be, it\u2019s still uncharted \u2014 and thus potentially very dangerous \u2014 waters.<\/p>\n<p>But even if Alef could guarantee that the flying part of the eVTOL was 100 percent safe, the same simply cannot be said about fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-climate-agenda-wont-replace-jobs-it-seeks-to-kill-separate-ap-wapo-fact-checks-suggest\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda Won\u2019t Replace Jobs It Seeks To Kill, Separate AP, WaPo Fact-Checks Suggest\">electric vehicles<\/a> writ large.<\/p>\n<p>As electric vehicles have gained in popularity, so too have some of the horror stories associated with them \u2014 whether it involves the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/data-shows-incredible-way-electric-vehicles-create-double-pothole-damage-gas-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">potential damage<\/a> EVs can cause, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/insurance-companies-raise-rates-electric-vehicles-amid-troubling-pattern-totaled-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">skyrocketing insurance premiums<\/a>, concerns over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/journalist-learns-tough-lesson-electric-vehicles-weather-throws-big-wrench-road-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vehicle charging<\/a> or exorbitant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/electric-vehicle-owners-shock-learning-battery-replacements-cost-20000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repair costs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If none of those concerns move you, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/04\/alef-aeronautics-startup-backed-by-tesla-investor-flying-car-by-2025.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNBC<\/a> reported that Alef has promised that these flying cars will be available by 2025, although the pre-order page and news release make no mention of a release window.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/faa-gives-greenlight-fully-electric-flying-car-can-used-avoid-traffic\/\">FAA Gives Greenlight to Fully Electric Flying Car That Can Be Used to Avoid All Traffic<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>stopped companies like Uber and Airbus from investing in the development of flying cars.
