I passed along that information to the president and, as I said, I think the record from that time confirms all of that,\u201d Pence said.<\/p>\n<p>Pence, himself a former governor of Indiana, said the states were going through a process \u201cafter so much uncertainty about the election outcome\u201d in places such as Arizona and Georgia that Trump lost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStates around the country were going through the legal process of engaging in a review under state law,\u201d Pence said. \u201cI got updates on that, passed that along, and it was no more, no less than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating efforts by Trump and his allies to challenge the outcome of the 2020 contest. Pence, who, like Trump is now running a 2024 presidential campaign, appeared before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/missouri-man-charged-with-threatening-to-murder-2-us-congressmen\/\" title=\"Missouri Man Charged With Threatening to Murder 2 US Congressmen\">federal grand jury<\/a> in April.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the federal inquiry, Trump\u2019s calls to Georgia officials about that state\u2019s 2020 election results are also under investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Trump already faces charges in other cases but broadly denies any wrongdoing and claims he is the target of a \u201cwitch hunt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pence acknowledged that he did resist pressure from Trump to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-does-not-remember-any-pressure-from-trump-to-urge-governors-to-find-2020-election-fraud\/\" title=\"Pence denies Trump's pressure to push governors on election fraud.\">attempt sending back election results<\/a> to certain states in January 2021 when he presided over a joint session of Congress as lawmakers certified Joe Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-voters-will-decide-the-virginia-gubernatorial-election\/\" title=\"These Voters Will Decide The Virginia Gubernatorial Election\">presidential election victory<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president expressed his strong belief that I had authority that I did not have under the Constitution in the closing days,\u201d Pence said.<\/p>\n<p>Pence said that he and Trump \u201ccontinue to have a strong difference\u201d on that issue, but he stressed, \u201cI\u2019ll always believe that by God\u2019s grace, I did my duty under the Constitution that day in presiding over a joint session of Congress in the aftermath of the mayhem and the rioting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But during November and December 2020, Pence said there was an \u201corderly process\u201d in which multiple states were conducting reviews of their election results and dozens of lawsuits were underway.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to his calls with governors, Pence insisted he engaged in \u201cinformation gathering.\u201d He added, \u201cWe passed that information along and otherwise just focused on the work at hand.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former VP Mike Pence denies any recollection of being urged to push Arizona Governor Doug Ducey to find proof of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
