The candidate in question is Florida Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-reveals-eliminate-3-cabinet-departments-plus-irs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron DeSantis<\/a>, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/01\/new-millionaire-ron-desantis-still-owes-student-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/disclosure.floridaethics.gov\/api\/Report\/RenderPdf\/901305\/False\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">financial disclosure form<\/a> filed Friday showed that DeSantis owes $18,628.66 in student loans.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-does-this-image-show-an-israeli-soldier-kneeling-on-a-palestinian-childs-neck\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Does This Image Show An Israeli Soldier Kneeling On A Palestinian Child\u2019s Neck?\">form shows<\/a> that DeSantis had income from his $141,400.20 salary as governor and $1.25 million from Harper Collins, part of what the Post said was a $2 million advance on his February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-announces-immigration-plan-vows-go-trump-use-deadly-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autobiography<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The form noted that DeSantis has more than $1 million in the bank.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/despite-massive-2m-book-deal-2024-gop-candidate-still-has-nearly-20k-in-student-loans\/\" title=\"2024 GOP Candidate: M Book Deal, K Student Loans\">student loan figure showed<\/a> that DeSantis, who is 44, paid about $2,600 of what he owes last year from his studies at Yale University and Harvard Law, according to the Post.<\/p>\n<p>The Twittersphere, of course, was hardly going to let the news pass without comment.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis?\">@GovRonDeSantis<\/a> why not help out America..Pau off ypur student loan in full since ypu are a millionaire<br \/>\nRead \u201cRon DeSantis became a millionaire last year \u2014 but still owes student loans\u201d on SmartNews: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PXihmszbyf\">https:\/\/t.co\/PXihmszbyf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ginger Girl (@gingergirl1953) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gingergirl1953\/status\/1675215110669840386?\">July 1, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Articles coming out today saying \u201cRon is a Millionaire but still has student loans\u201d. If you produce somebody that can\u2019t pay it back, that\u2019s on you,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis has said he opposed President Joe Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-found-creative-way-block-bidens-student-loan-forgiveness-dems-join\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">student loan forgiveness<\/a> plan, which was shot down Friday by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very unfair to have a truck driver have to pay back a loan from somebody who got a Ph.D. in gender studies. That\u2019s not fair. If they\u2019re producing people that go deep into debt and their degree is not worth anything and they\u2019re not able to make enough money to pay it back, then that\u2019s on them.
