That has to be an act of Congress\u201d Peslosi said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/06\/30\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-supreme-court-decision-on-student-loan-debt-relief\/\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>, the president said he believed the decision was \u201cwrong\u201d and \u201cdisappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s decision has closed one path. Now we\u2019re going to start another,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI believe the court\u2019s decision to strike down my student debt relief program was a mistake, was wrong. I\u2019m not going to stop fighting to deliver borrowers what they need, particularly those at the bottom end of the economic scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden interviewed with reporters and said that his administration will seek to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt through a new route, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/COMPS-765\/pdf\/COMPS-765.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Higher Education Act<\/a>, after being thwarted by the conservative-leaning court. The Education Department began a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-pursues-new-measures-for-student-loan-relief-after-supreme-court-snub\/\" title=\"Biden seeks fresh student loan relief steps post Supreme Court rejection.\">months-long regulatory \u201crulemaking\u201d procedure<\/a>, starting on October 1<sup>st<\/sup> , during which debtors will not be regarded as being in default for late or missing payments.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI will stop at nothing to find other ways to deliver relief to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-attempts-to-quell-fears-over-inflation\/\" title=\"Joe Biden attempts to quell fears over inflation\">hard-working middle-class families<\/a>,\u201d Mr. Biden said. \u201cMy Administration will continue to work to bring the promise of higher education to every American.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the government, this will save students with undergraduate debts $1,000 year. As part of the broader plan, the Education Department established a scheme to lower the monthly payments that these borrowers must make from 10% of discretionary income to 5%.<\/p>\n<p>With the goal of assisting community college graduates, loan forgiveness would be provided to students with debt of $12,000 or less after 10 years of payments as opposed to 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Progressive voters, who make up the coalition that supported Biden\u2019s reelection in 2020, have long pressed the White House to handle student loan debt; the court\u2019s ruling further heightened calls for more action.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
