In that time period, 297,088 babies were actually born, presumably because of the abortion ban.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Heartbeat Act went into effect in September 2021, before the Supreme Court overruled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/87R\/billtext\/pdf\/SB00008F.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">allowed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> private individuals to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-state-legislature-passes-fetal-heartbeat-abortion-bill\/\" title=\"Texas state legislature passes fetal heartbeat abortion bill\">sue abortion providers<\/a>, effectively banning the practice in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Johns Hopkins study is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/2023\/analysis-suggests-2021-texas-abortion-ban-resulted-in-nearly-9800-extra-live-births-in-state-in-year-after-law-went-into-effect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">first<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to examine how the Texas law impacted the number of births in the state, and it was funded by a grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAlthough our study doesn\u2019t detail why these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/thanks-to-texas-heartbeat-law-10000-babies-escaped-abortion-study\/\" title=\"Texas Heartbeat Law Saves 10,000 Babies from Abortion: Study\">extra births occurred<\/a>, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exposure-to-spike-protein-impacts-womens-reproductive-and-maternal-health\/\" title=\"Exposure to Spike Protein Impacts  Women\u2019s Reproductive and Maternal Health\">findings strongly suggest<\/a> that a considerable number of pregnant individuals in Texas were unable to overcome barriers to abortion access,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/2023\/analysis-suggests-2021-texas-abortion-ban-resulted-in-nearly-9800-extra-live-births-in-state-in-year-after-law-went-into-effect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Dr. Alison Gemmill, one of the study\u2019s lead authors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An earlier <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/fullarticle\/2798216#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> released before <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dobbs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> suggested that Texan women were traveling to neighboring states like Oklahoma and Louisiana to get abortions. However, since the Supreme Court\u2019s landmark decision, every neighboring state except New Mexico restricted the practice. The authors of the study believe that this may lead to even greater increases in births.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf, previously, people were able to leave the state to go to a neighboring state to seek an abortion, that\u2019s no longer an option,\u201d Gemmill said. \u201cSo it\u2019s possible that we could be seeing even greater increases [in children born] post-Dobbs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier this year, the Texas Legislature voted to allocate an additional $20 million per year to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.texas.gov\/services\/health\/women-children\/alternatives-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alternatives to Abortion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> program, which funds crisis pregnancy centers and nonprofits that offer material support, like car seats and formula, to new parents.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study found that Texas&#8217; abortion ban led to approximately 10,000 additional births in the state.
