Here are eight standout quotes from his opinion:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Gorsuch challenges the dissent&#8217;s distortion of the facts:<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>It is difficult to read the dissent and conclude we are looking at the same case. Much of it focuses on the evolution of public accommodations laws \u2026 and the strides gay Americans have made towards securing equal justice under law \u2026 And, no doubt, there is much to applaud here. But none of this answers the question we face today: Can a State force someone who provides her own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-sides-with-christian-graphic-designer-says-state-cant-force-her-to-violate-her-religious-beliefs\/\" title=\"Supreme Court supports Christian designer, protects religious freedom.\">expressive services<\/a> to abandon her conscience and speak <em>its<\/em> preferred message instead? <\/p>\n<p>When the dissent finally gets around to that question\u2014more than halfway into its opinion\u2014it reimagines the facts of this case from top to bottom.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>2. State-enforced speech violates the First Amendment:<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>If [Ms. Smith] wishes to speak, she must either speak as the State demands or face sanctions for expressing her own beliefs, sanctions that may include compulsory participation in \u2018remedial . . . training,\u2019 filing periodic compliance reports as officials deem necessary, and paying monetary fines. \u2026 Under our precedents, that \u2018is enough,\u2019 more than enough, to represent an impermissible abridgment of the First Amendment\u2019s right to speak freely.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>3. The dissent&#8217;s arguments in favor of coercing Smith&#8217;s speech are illogical:<\/h3>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cef4514208f4cc40dd8003b64d58555c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cef4514208f4cc40dd8003b64d58555c\"><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>In some places, the dissent gets so turned around about the facts that it opens fire on its own position. For instance: While stressing that a Colorado company cannot refuse \u2018the full and equal enjoyment of [its] services\u2019 based on a customer\u2019s protected status \u2026 the dissent assures us that a company selling creative services \u2018to the public\u2019 does have a right \u2018to decide what messages to include or not to include\u2019 \u2026 But if that is true, what are we even debating?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>4. The First Amendment protects all Americans:<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n[T]he First Amendment extends to all persons engaged in expressive conduct, including those who seek profit (such as speechwriters, artists, and website designers). \u2026 If anything is truly dispiriting here, it is the dissent\u2019s failure to take seriously this Court\u2019s enduring commitment to protecting the speech rights of all comers, no matter how controversial\u2014or even repugnant\u2014many may find the message at hand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>5. Gorsuch criticizes the dissent for selective defense of free speech:<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Today, however, the dissent abandons what this Court\u2019s cases have recognized time and time again: A commitment to speech for only some messages and some persons is no commitment at all. By approving a government\u2019s effort to'[e]liminat[e]\u2019 disfavored \u2018ideas,\u2019 \u2026 today\u2019s dissent is emblematic of an unfortunate tendency by some to defend First Amendment values only when they find the speaker\u2019s message sympathetic.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>6. The Constitution upholds tolerance, not state-enforced coercion:<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Of course, abiding the Constitution\u2019s commitment to the freedom of speech means all of us will encounter ideas we consider \u2018unattractive,\u2019 \u2026 \u2018misguided, or even hurtful\u2019 \u2026 But tolerance, not coercion, is our Nation\u2019s answer. The First Amendment envisions the United States as a rich and complex place where all persons are free to think and speak as they wish, not as the government demands.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>7.
