We\u2019re all part of a community. I respect him and his point of view. But at the same time, I also appreciate his professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did it in good humor and took it very seriously,\u201d Silver continued. \u201cMy sense is he\u2019s going to be here as he always is as a top-notch professional and engaged in the game. So I respect his point of view, but it can be issues that can be worked out within the family, so to speak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t made a secret that economic interests aren\u2019t a factor,\u201d Silver added. \u201cWhen I say economic interests are a factor, it has less to do with the economics of one Sunday night on TNT in the United States. It has more to do with the larger brand value of the NBA and the fact that this is our No. 1 fan engagement event of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/05\/sports\/basketball\/nba-all-star-game-lebron-james.html?\">had said<\/a> in early February that he had been looking forward to the\u00a0\u00a0league\u2019s scheduled break from March 5-10 because the last NBA season ended in October. He said,\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t even understand why we\u2019re having an All-Star Game.\u201d He added, \u201cObviously you guys can see I\u2019m not very happy about it. But it\u2019s out of my hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago Bulls\u2019 Zach LaVine commented, \u201cI think the N.B.A. knows what they\u2019re doing. I don\u2019t think they would do the game if it wasn\u2019t safe for the players or the fans.
