(Photo by SUZANNE CORDEIRO \/ AFP) (Photo by SUZANNE CORDEIRO\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><br \/>7:00 PM \u2013 Thursday, June 29, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>Travis Scott, a rapper and producer who planned the ill-fated 2021 Astroworld Festival, will not face charges in connection with the crowd crush that killed ten people and injured hundreds more, District Attorney Kim Ogg declared on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>A grand jury also declined to indict several festival personnel involved in the police inquiry, including chief of security John Junnell and festival director Brett Silberstein.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIn this instance, the grand jury of the 228th District Court of Harris County found that no crime did occur and that no single individual was criminally responsible,\u201d Ogg said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt is tragic that 10 innocent people were killed while trying to enjoy an evening of music and entertainment, something many of us do routinely and without a second thought to our safety. But a tragedy isn\u2019t always a crime, and not every death is a homicide,\u201d Ogg continued. \u201cThis grand jury\u2019s determination has no impact on the many civil lawsuits pending.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The victims allegedly died as a result of \u201ccompression asphyxia,\u201d according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The youngest victim was 9 years old.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ezra Blount, a 9-year-old who attended Astroworld has succumbed to his injuries, bringing the death toll up to 10. Those accused have rejected assertions that incompetence in the festival\u2019s preparation and advertising contributed to the fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>When the crowd rush first began, there were circulating videos online that showed festivalgoers in the front rows screaming at the artist in unison, telling him to stop the performance. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner stated on Thursday that the entire criminal offense will be released in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>When the event swiftly devolved into mayhem, many concert-goers were crushed, pushed down, and fighting to breathe as fans surged towards the stage during Scott\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p>The chaos caused authorities to designate the performance a \u201cmass casualty event,\u201d according to police.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, it was unclear what Scott had observed from the stage or whether he was aware of the audience\u2019s circumstances. He continued to perform for over an hour after the injuries were recorded, although his lawyer stated at the time that he was unaware of the mass casualty declaration until the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Houston Police Department\u2019s lead homicide investigator, Mike Barrow, during Thursday\u2019s news conference, \u201cprior occurrences at the festival\u201d contributed to the crowd circumstances.
