It\u2019s been increasingly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fentanyl-xylazine-drug-overdose-deaths-cdc-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mixed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> into the illegal drug supply, and now the CDC says overdose deaths containing the substance increased by 276% from January 2019 to June 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese data show that fentanyl combined with xylazine is increasingly dangerous and deadly,\u201d director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Dr. Rahul Gupta said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fentanyl-xylazine-drug-overdose-deaths-cdc-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThis is why the Biden-Harris Administration recently designated it as an emerging threat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Alarming Statistics<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In January 2019, 2.9% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/xylazine-increasingly-detected-in-fentanyl-overdose-deaths-cdc-says\/\" title=\"CDC: Xylazine Found More in Fentanyl Overdose Deaths\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fentanyl-related-deaths-hit-rural-california-communities\/\" title=\"Fentanyl-Related Deaths Hit Rural California Communities\">fentanyl overdose deaths<\/a> contained tranq<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As of June 2022, 10.9% of fentanyl overdose deaths contain the substance, according to CDC data from the State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System, which includes 31 states and Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From January 2021 to June 2022, tranq was detected in 9% of all fatal overdoses, The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/4074174-cdc-overdose-deaths-from-xylazine-laced-fentanyl-rapidly-increasing\/\">notes<\/a>, adding that an increase in testing could account for some of the increase.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tranq can make people unconscious for hours at a time, as well as lower a person\u2019s blood pressure and slow down heart rates, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/cdc-xylazine-tranq-fentanyl-opioid-deaths-rcna91638\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to NBC News. It can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/06\/29\/health\/xylazine-tranq-fentanyl-cdc-study\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> cause necrosis, described as the rotting of the skin, which is what can lead to amputation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cResearch has shown Xylazine is often added to illicit opioids, including fentanyl, and people report using xylazine-containing fentanyl to lengthen its euphoric effects,\u201d the National Institute on Drug Abuse <a href=\"https:\/\/nida.nih.gov\/research-topics\/xylazine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> of the drug. \u201cMost overdose deaths linked to both xylazine and fentanyl also involved additional substances, including cocaine, heroin, benzodiazepines, alcohol, gabapentin, methadone, and prescription opioids.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A Disturbing Trend<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The news comes as overdose deaths in the United States have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-pushes-congress-to-pass-spending-plans-after-manchin-opposes-democrats-massive-3-5t-bill\/\" title=\"Biden Pushes Congress To Pass Spending Plans After Manchin Opposes Democrats\u2019 Massive .5T Bill\">reached record levels<\/a> in recent years. Last month, preliminary federal data showed 109,680 people died from overdose deaths in 2022. In 2021, the number was 109,179 \u2014 a 17% increase from 2020, and a 30% increase from the year before, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/17\/us\/politics\/drug-overdose-deaths.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to The New York Times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In April, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/04\/12\/health\/tranq-dope-xylazine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designated<\/a> xylazine an \u201cEmerging Drug Threat\u201d \u2014 the first such designation. With that, the administration was tasked with increasing efforts to combat the drug. At the time, Gupta warned, \u201cMany communities are not even aware of the threat in their backyard.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A month before that designation, the Drug Enforcement Agency warned that tranq had been detected in 48 states, The Daily Wire reported. According to DEA authorities, the majority of the fentanyl that enters the United States is trafficked by the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels in Mexico, who primarily source the chemicals from China. Between August 2021 and August 2022, 107,735 Americans died from drug poisoning, with 66% involving synthetic opioids like fentanyl.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cXylazine is making the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-cruz-only-billionaires-human-traffickers-and-fentanyl-dealers-are-better-off-under-biden\/\" title=\"Sen Cruz: Only Billionaires, Human Traffickers, and Fentanyl Dealers Are Better Off Under Biden\">deadliest drug threat<\/a> our country has ever faced, fentanyl, even deadlier,\u201d DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/alert\/dea-reports-widespread-threat-fentanyl-mixed-xylazine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fentanyl laced with xylazine is causing a rise in overdose deaths, as per CDC data.
