Tim Scott Urges Harvard to Eliminate Legacy Programs<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) weighed in on the Supreme Court ruling to remove affirmative action from the college admissions process on Thursday, urging Harvard to \u201celiminate any legacy programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that Harvard could do to make that even better is to eliminate any legacy programs where they have preferential treatment for legacy kids, not allow for the professors \u2014 their kids to come to Harvard as well,\u201d Scott said on Fox News on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Biden Tries to Shake Low Marks on Economy with &#8216;Bidenomics&#8217; Push<\/h3>\n<p>The Supreme Court ruling barred affirmative action at Harvard College and the University of North Carolina, ruling that colleges can no longer base decisions on race during the admissions process. The 2024 Republican presidential candidate said universities should take the effort a step further to cover legacy students.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re looking for a way to improve the footprint of Harvard. Let\u2019s make sure that all admissions are based on academic scores and not just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/advocates-hail-scotus-decision-scrapping-affirmative-action-in-college-admissions\/\" title=\"SCOTUS decision ends affirmative action in college admissions, praised by advocates.\">eliminating affirmative action<\/a>, but let\u2019s look at the legacy programs,\u201d Scott said. \u201cLet\u2019s look at the fact that the professors\u2019 kids can go there as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Following the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-bans-affirmative-action-in-ruling-against-race-conscious-college-admissions\/\" title=\"Supreme Court outlaws affirmative action in college admissions based on race.\">ban affirmative action<\/a> in college admissions, conversations on how colleges handle legacy preferences have been circulating, prompting some lawmakers to call for an end to the practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPractices like legacy admissions and other systems expand privilege instead of opportunity,\u201d President Joe Biden said while announcing plans to direct the Department of Education to examine admissions practices to help colleges and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tim-scott-calls-for-end-to-legacy-admissions-in-wake-of-affirmative-action-decision\/\" title=\"Tim Scott urges an end to legacy admissions following affirmative action ruling.\">universities uphold diverse student bodies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the House of Representatives weighed in as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf SCOTUS was serious about their ludicrous \u201ccolorblindness\u201d claims, they would have abolished legacy admissions, aka affirmative action for the privileged,\u201d Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Colleges and universities can use legacy admissions as a factor to give preferential treatment to the children of alumni. The practice of using legacy admissions to boost an applicant&#8217;s chances of entry are controversial, and the Supreme Court ruling raised questions as to how it affects diversity on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a day where we understand that being judged by the content of our character, not by the color of our skin, is what our Constitution wants,\u201d Scott said. \u201cWe are continuing to form a more perfect union.
