The New York Court of Appeals, the state&#8217;s highest court, said the maps violated a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-extreme-maga-republicans-took-back-the-house-through-unlawful-gerrymandering\/\" title=\"Fact Check: Gerrymandering has been used by both political parties to gain an advantage in elections. All judges on the state&#8217;s Court of Appeals were appointed by Democrats, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/State_of_New_York_Court_of_Appeals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ballotpedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gerrymandering by Democrats last year would have given their party an advantage in 22 of 26 districts in the state, according to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/08\/new-york-redistricting-00101090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a><\/em>, even though Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin pulled in 46.8 percent of the vote. The new <a href=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/fbem\/DocumentDisplayServlet?documentId=UG9c3UUUXdg6wEXou62Azw==&#038;system=prod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">map<\/a> split half as many counties as the Democratic map and created eight competitive races compared with the Democrats&#8217; three.
