I don\u2019t want to speak, I\u2019m talking brother-to-brother. Brother-to-brother,\u201d the younger Biden said. \u201cThe question is, is the world, is the U.S. ready for this?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy opinion is that we are on the cusp of a consciousness that needs to be brought about to solve a lot of the problems in and around addiction, but as importantly, to make us aware of the fact that we\u2019re all one people and we\u2019ve got to come together.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Frank Biden added that he had <strong>\u201cdone a great deal of research\u201d<\/strong> on the issue <strong>\u201cbecause I\u2019m a recovering alcoholic for many, many years.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The White House did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Some researchers believe psilocybin, the compound in psychedelic mushrooms, changes the way the brain organizes itself and can help users overcome things like depression, alcoholism and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-gary-sinise-launches-new-initiative-with-home-depot-founders\/\" title=\"WATCH: Gary Sinise Launches New Initiative With Home Depot Founders\">post-traumatic stress disorder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A drug that\u2019s related to the anesthetic ketamine was cleared by the FDA to help people with hard-to-treat depression.<\/p>\n<p>But medical experts caution that more research is needed on the drugs\u2019 efficacy and the extent of the risks of psychedelics, which can cause hallucinations.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychiatry.org\/getattachment\/d5c13619-ca1f-491f-a7a8-b7141c800904\/Position-Use-of-Psychedelic-Empathogenic-Agents.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Psychiatric Association<\/a> has not endorsed the use of psychedelics in treatment, noting the Food and Drug Administration has yet to offer a final determination.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA designated psilocybin as a \u201cbreakthrough therapy\u201d in 2018, a label that\u2019s designed to speed the development and review of drugs to treat a serious condition.<\/p>\n<p>MDMA, also known as ecstasy, also has that designation for PTSD treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA last week released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/regulatory-information\/search-fda-guidance-documents\/psychedelic-drugs-considerations-clinical-investigations?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\">draft guidance<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-is-very-open-minded-about-psychedelic-drugs-as-medical-treatment-brother-says\/\" title=\"Joe Biden's Brother Says He's Supportive of Psychedelic Drugs for Medical Use\">researchers designing clinical trials testing psychedelic drugs<\/a> as potential treatments for a variety of medical conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has also provided to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/national-institutes-health-gives-nearly-4-million-grant-fund-psychedelic-mushroom-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Institutes of Health<\/a> and other agencies funding for dozens of projects <a href=\"https:\/\/psychedelicalpha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/NIH-Psychedelics-Letter-June-2022.pdf\">studying psychedelic drugs<\/a> with potential benefit for mental and behavioral health.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/oregon-store-openly-selling-psychedelic-mushrooms-line-forms-authorities-nowhere-seen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon<\/a> became the first state in the nation to legalize the adult use of psilocybin. Colorado\u2019s voters last year voted to decriminalize psilocybin.<\/p>\n<p>Republican strongholds, including Utah and Missouri, have or are considering commissioning studies into the drugs, partly inspired by veterans\u2019 who have used psilocybin to help with PTSD.<\/p>\n<p>Former Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry spoke at a conference last week in Colorado about helping get a bill passed in the Texas legislature in 2021 to fund a study of psilocybin for veterans.
