However, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad has said he favors pursuing inflation targets within a \u201ccontinuous\u201d time frame, arguing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-kat-cammack-gop-immigration-policies-should-put-americans-first\/\" title=\"Exclusive--Kat Cammack: GOP Immigration Policies Should Put Americans First\">longer-term approach<\/a> provides more room to accommodate price shocks without requiring monetary tightening.<\/p>\n<p>The CMN comprises the finance minister, planning minister and the central bank governor, giving the federal government two out of three votes on one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brazil-may-tweak-inflation-target-time-frame-in-cmn-meeting\/\" title=\"Brazil may adjust inflation target timeframe in CMN meeting.\">thorniest economic policy debates<\/a> in Latin America\u2019s largest nation. <\/p>\n<p>President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has often criticized the independent central bank for keeping interest rates at 13.75% despite a steep decline in inflation. He has also called for higher inflation targets to enable monetary policy easing.
