Truth is, making an existing product less efficient but more expensive doesn\u2019t really meet the definition of innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Even the purported amenities and technological advances EV-makers like to brag about in their ads have been a regular feature of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-ca-dem-senators-tell-biden-to-set-hard-date-to-eliminate-sale-of-gas-powered-vehicles\/\" title=\"Two CA Dem Senators Tell Biden To Set Hard Date To Eliminate Sale Of Gas-Powered Vehicles\">gas-powered vehicles<\/a> going back generations. At best, EVs, <em>if<\/em> they fulfill their promise, are a lateral technology. \u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-289997693\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e40557617c45bf43d9c33f6dcc7f4501 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e40557617c45bf43d9c33f6dcc7f4501\"><\/div>\n<p>Which is why there is no real \u201cemerging market\u201d for EVs in the United States as much as there\u2019s an industrial policy in place that props up EVs with government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/new-york-city-buying-more-than-900-evs-government-fleets-2023-01-05\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purchases<\/a>, propaganda, endless state <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/microchip-electric-vehicles-battery-semiconductor-states-subsidies-3ac5f11cdbf020e996f6bc8f92bd2bfd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsidies<\/a>, cronyism, taxpayer-backed loans, and edicts. The green \u201crevolution\u201d is an elite-driven, top-down technocratic project.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s increasingly clear that the only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/electric-cars-are-an-expensive-scam\/\" title=\"Electric cars are costly frauds.\">reason giant rent-seeking carmakers<\/a> are so heavily invested in EV development is that government is promising to artificially limit the production of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-recent-failures-of-green-energy-policies\/\" title=\"3 Recent Failures of Green Energy Policies\">gas-powered cars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Joe Biden signed an executive order to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/04\/10\/electric-vehicles-joe-biden-white-house-rules-54-percent-by-2030-pollution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">set a target<\/a>\u201d for half of all new vehicles sold in 2030 to be zero-emission. California claims it is banning combustion engines in all new cars in about 10 years. So carmakers adopt business models to deal with these distorted incentives and contrived theoretical markets of the future.<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s real-world economy, though, Ford <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/27\/ford-to-ax-at-least-1000-contract-salaried-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> this week that it was firing at least 1,000 employees \u2014 many of them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ford-plans-to-lay-off-at-least-1-000-contract-salaried-workers-bf4f5ef3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-latest-amnesty-grows-two-subservient-workforces\/\" title=\"Democrats' Latest Amnesty Grows Two Subservient Workforces\">white-collar workers<\/a> on the EV side<\/a>. Ford <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/03\/24\/ford-motors-projects-loss-electric-vehicles-tesla\/\">projects<\/a> it\u2019s going to lose $3 billion on electric vehicles in 2023, bringing its EV losses to $5.1 billion over two years. In 2021, Ford reportedly lost $34,000 on <a href=\"https:\/\/robertbryce.substack.com\/p\/ford-is-losing-66446-on-every-ev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">every<\/a> EV it made. This year it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/technology\/ford-loses-nearly-60000-for-every-electric-vehicle-sold\">losing<\/a> more than $58,000 on every EV. In a normal world, Ford would be dramatically scaling back EV production, not expanding it. Remember that next time we need to bail out Detroit.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-701e38c68fa9e84e4582f60950012768 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-701e38c68fa9e84e4582f60950012768\"><\/div>\n<p>Then again, we\u2019re already bailing them out, I suppose. Last week, the U.S. Energy Department lent Ford \u2014 again, a <em>company that loses tens of thousands of dollars on every EV it sells <\/em>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/asia\/ford-sk-joint-venture-set-receive-92-billion-us-government-loan-battery-plants-2023-06-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another<\/a> $9.2 billion in taxpayer dollars for a South Korean battery project. One imagines no sane bank would do it. The cost of EV batteries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138078_ev-battery-cost-soared-in-2022-hampering-ev-affordability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has gone up<\/a>, not down, over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>Ford says these up-front losses are part of a \u201cstart-up mentality.\u201d We\u2019re still pretending EVs are a new idea rather than an inferior one. But scaremongering about climate and a misplaced romanticizing of \u201cmanufacturing\u201d jobs have softened up the public for this kind of waste. In the statist\u2019s utopian vision, highly paid union members will be grabbing their lunchpails and biking over to the local solar panel factory or EV production line and toiling there for the common good.<\/p>\n<p>In the real world, there is Lordstown. In 2019, after GM \u2014 which also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/general-motors-will-lose-money-on-its-electric-cars-until-2025-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loses<\/a> money on every EV sold \u2014 shut down a plant in Lordstown, Ohio, then-President Donald Trump made a big deal of publicly pressuring the auto giant to rectify the situation. So CEO\u00a0Mary Barra lent Lordstown Motors, a new EV outfit, $40 million to retrofit the plant. Ohio also gave the company <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2023\/06\/27\/ohio-e-v-manufacturer-fails-despite-millions-in-taxpayer-subsidies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another<\/a> $60 million.<\/p>\n<p>You may remember the widespread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/6\/25\/21302966\/lordstown-motors-electric-pickup-truck-ev-endurance-unveiling-pence\">glowing<\/a> coverage of Lordstown. After Joe Biden signed his \u201cBuy American\u201d executive order, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Technology\/biden-replace-entire-federal-fleet-electric-vehicles\/story?id=75488441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promising<\/a> to replace the entire U.S. federal fleet with EVs, Lordstown\u2019s stock shot up.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-809e3e72c5e9187cf70062ef695fab03 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-809e3e72c5e9187cf70062ef695fab03\"><\/div>\n<p>By the start of this year, Lordstown had manufactured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmj.com\/story\/48081129\/lordstown-motors-31-ev-pickup-trucks-made-so-far-six-sold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">31 vehicles total<\/a>. Six had been sold to actual consumers. (But to be fair, five would be <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/656895\/lordstown-recall-electric-parking-brake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recalled<\/a> \u2014 following a recall of 19.) The stock was trading at barely a dollar. Tech-funding giant Foxconn was pulling its $170 million.\u00a0And this week the company filed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/lordstown-motors-files-bankruptcy-sues-foxconn-2023-06-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bankruptcy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Without massive state help, EVs are a niche market for rich virtue signalers. And, come to think of it, that\u2019s sort of what they are now, even with the help. A recent University of California at Berkeley study found that 90 percent of tax credits for electric cars go to people in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/haas.berkeley.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/WP262.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">top<\/a>\u00a0income strata. Most EVs are brought by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdworld.com\/electrification\/article\/21162919\/evs-remain-mostly-out-of-reach-for-poor-americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high earners<\/a> who like the look of a Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>Really, why would a middle-class family shun a perfectly good gas-powered car that can be fueled (most of the time) cheaply and driven virtually any distance, in any environment, and any time of the year? We don\u2019t need lithium. We have the most efficient, affordable, portable, and useful form of energy. We have centuries\u2019 worth of it waiting in the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Climate alarmists might believe EVs are necessary to save the planet. That\u2019s fine. Using their standard, however, a bike is an innovation. Because even on their terms, the usefulness of EVs is highly <a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/the-environmental-downside-of-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debatable<\/a>. Most of the energy that powers them is derived from fossil fuels. The manufacturing of an EV has a negligible positive benefit for the environment, if any.<\/p>\n<p>And the fact is that if EVs were more efficient and saved us money, as enviros and politicians claim, consumers wouldn\u2019t have to be compelled into using them and companies wouldn\u2019t have to be bribed into producing them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ad01c72ec9e2acb6f680b795c542e470 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ad01c72ec9e2acb6f680b795c542e470\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The left often labels electric car skeptics as Luddites.
