This plan aims to reduce congestion in Manhattan, improve air quality, and raise money for the city by charging drivers who are driving in certain parts of the city.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The first of its kind plan was approved last week. According to reports, the prices being debated are $9 to $23 at peak hours, $7 to $17 at off-peak hours, and $5 to $12 during overnight hours.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) said that she is proud that her state is leading the way to &#8220;cleaner air, safer streets, and better transit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW: New York City is leading the nation by becoming the first city in America with a congestion pricing program \u2014 setting the standard in the fight for cleaner air, better transit, and less traffic. <br \/>\u00a0<br \/>As we so often do here in New York, today, we\u2019re making history.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/1673757671629922305?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;We are going to be the very first state in the nation, the very first city in America, to have a congestion pricing plan,&#8221; Hochul said on Tuesday. &#8220;Others will look at us. Other cities are paying attention. How is it going to work here? Well, we\u2019re going to show them. We\u2019re going to show them how you do this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Federal Highway Administration gave New York the green light on Friday to move forward with the plan in order to manage congestion in the city, primarily through tolls in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>The toll roads will reportedly cover &#8220;much&#8221; of Manhattan\u2019s roads, and the tolls will be collected through E-ZPass. For those who do not have E-ZPass, a bill will be mailed to the home of the registered vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The plan, formerly called the Central Business District Tolling Program, was introduced by New York\u2019s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York City Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Janno Lieber, the CEO of the MTA, said that the new plan required a 4,000-page environmental assessment in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-city-congestion-tax\/\" title=\"NYC congestion tax\">receive federal government approval<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;They studied it to death,&#8221; Lieber said. &#8220;And we studied every intersection almost all the way to Philadelphia. And they studied the air quality, and they studied all it means, and they said that this initiative \u2014 this dramatic historic initiative \u2014 will not have a significant impact on the 28 million people in the region under federal environmental law. That\u2019s what this means.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Those who oppose the new plan said that it is nothing more than a way for the MTA to get more money.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey Democrat Representatives Josh Gottheimer and Bill Pascrell, along with Senator Bob Menendez, released a <a href=\"https:\/\/gottheimer.house.gov\/posts\/statement-gottheimer-sen-menendez-and-rep-pascrell-statement-on-the-department-of-transportations-decision-to-allow-nys-congestion-tax-to-move-forward\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joint statement<\/a> saying the plan is &#8220;nothing more than a cash grab&#8221; and that the New Jersey congressional delegation was not &#8220;consulted&#8221; about the new plan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Read our statement in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USDOT?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@USDOT<\/a>&#8216;s decision to allow New York&#8217;s and the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MTA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MTA<\/a>&#8216;s Congestion Tax plan to move forward without requiring a full and complete environmental study.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA admitted in their own report that the Congestion Tax will harm the environment. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1o37DfwPSQ\">pic.twitter.com\/1o37DfwPSQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep Josh Gottheimer (@RepJoshG) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJoshG\/status\/1673761816449806336?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;This is nothing more than a cash grab to fund the MTA,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;There is no excuse for FHWA and the Department of Transportation\u2019s failure to require New York to meaningfully engage with stakeholders across New Jersey and to not adequately consult the New Jersey congressional delegation and other elected officials.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Governor Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) joined the representatives from his state, saying that this will be just another &#8220;big tax&#8221; on commuters from his state. He blamed the Biden administration for approving the idea and has tried to negotiate with Governor Hochul, but she has refused him.<\/p>\n<p>The new plan is set to go into effect in April 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
