Jean Carroll for defamation, claiming she falsely accused him of rape. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Trumps counterclaim against Carroll comes after a New York federal jury decided that he was not liable for rape but was liable for defamation and sexual abuse. Trump was ordered to pay $5 million, however, he asserted that he will appeal the ruling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump is reportedly seeking a retraction of her claims as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. According to the former president\u2019s legal team, E. Jean Carroll \u201cwantonly and falsely\u201d accused Trump on \u201cmultiple occasions of committing rape,\u201d saying those claims \u201cconstitute defamation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers, Alina Habba and Michael Madaio, filed the lawsuit this week and claimed the rape \u201cclearly was not committed,\u201d pointing to the verdict of his case last month. They also claimed that \u201csignificant harm\u201d was brought to Trump\u2019s reputation through \u201crepeated falsehoods and defamatory statements.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When Carroll was questioned on CNN about the jury\u2019s verdict finding Trump not guilty for rape, she replied, \u201cOh, yes he did.\u201d Responding to the new lawsuit, Carroll\u2019s lawyer Roberta Kaplan said, \u201cDonald Trump again argues, contrary to both logic and fact, that he was exonerated by a jury that found that he sexually abused E. Jean Carroll.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cTrump\u2019s filing is thus nothing more than his latest effort to delay accountability for what a jury has already found to be his defamation of E. Jean Carroll. But whether he likes it or not, that accountability is coming very soon,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Carroll has filed two defamation lawsuits against Trump. The former president\u2019s counterclaim is in response to Carroll\u2019s first lawsuit which has not yet reached trial. This most recent lawsuit includes comments Trump made about Carroll\u2019s appearance and accusations of her of lying about the alleged rape.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
