(Noah Berger\/AP Photo)<br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>Many police officers were injured during the BLM riots, as well as several reported deaths across the United States as a result of the violence. By contrast, only four people\u2014all supporters of President Donald Trump\u2014died directly due to the events of Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>But FBI agents who raised these concerns faced <strong>\u201cchilling and personal\u201d threats<\/strong> from the deputy director of the agency, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23863506-fbi-deputy-director-made-chilling-comments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sworn affidavit<\/a> from an FBI agent reviewed by the Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am providing this sworn declaration to advise that the Deputy Director of the FBI, Paul Abbate, threatened employees who criticized the FBI\u2019s response or tactics related to the investigation of the events of Jan. 6, 2021,\u201d the unnamed whistleblower said in the report.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5193121\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/04\/13\/id5193121-garland-at-doj-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n    Attorney General Merrick Garland, flanked by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco (L) and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate, at the Department of Justice in Washington on April 13, 2023. (Evan Vucci\/AP Photo)<br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>The agent reported that in Feb. 2021 Abbate, then newly appointed to his post, stated during a Secure Video Teleconference (SVTC) meeting with agents \u201cthat it had come to his attention that some employees questioned the FBI\u2019s investigative response to the events on Jan. 6, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had heard that some employees were contrasting the response to Jan. 6 with the response to the post-George Floyd protests and riots in the summer of 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abbate reportedly told the audience that \u201canyone who questions the FBl\u2019s response\u2014or his decisions regarding the response to Jan. 6\u2014did not belong in the FBI and should find a different job\u2014or something to that effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abbate told agents that the FBI responded to Jan. 6 in a manner consistent with its response to the summer 2020 riots, and \u201cargued that the FBI was applying all appropriate resources in each situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Abbate said that Special Agents in Charge (SACs)\u2014if they encountered an employee who disagreed\u2014should have the employee call Abbate personally, where Abbate said he would \u201cset them straight,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have witnessed hundreds of director SVTCs and have never seen a direct threat like that any other time,\u201d the agent reported. \u201cIt was chilling and personal, communicating clearly that there would be consequences for anyone that questioned his direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agent concluded the statement with an exhortation of the importance of law enforcement speaking out when they saw something that they disagreed with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of new agents\u2019 training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, every agent used to go to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum for a tour and a discussion of lessons learned from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-limits-contact-with-white-house-to-prevent-political-interference\/\" title=\"DOJ Limits Contact With White House To Prevent Political Interference\">law enforcement perspective<\/a>,\u201d the agent said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message was this: when orders or policies are wrong, when we are told to do things that violate core values and principles, we must have the courage to ask difficult questions and raise objections. We should be able to do that without fear of being crushed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deputy director\u2019s threats sent the opposite message: Dissent will not be tolerated. If you question my response to Jan. 6. I don\u2019t want you in my FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Alleged Retaliation Against Whistleblowers<\/h2>\n<p>The agent said that they felt obligated to report the comments they heard from Abbate \u201cas evidence of improper retaliatory intent and a green light for FBI managers to engage in reprisal against Jan. 6 whistleblowers in violation of [U.S. Code].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They encouraged oversight authorities to look into whether these alleged threats from Abbate were responsible for retaliation against Jan. 6 whistleblowers.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Marcus Allen, a staff operations specialist for the FBI, alleged to the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government that he had his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jan-6-committee-staff-director-previously-accused-of-retaliating-against-cia-whistleblower\/\" title=\"Jan. 6 committee staff director previously accused of retaliating against CIA whistleblower\">security clearance suspended<\/a> and was suspended from the agency without pay in retaliation for holding what the <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/allen-testimony.pdf\">agency called \u201cconspiratorial views\u201d<\/a> on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>Allen served two tours in Iraq, and had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-deputy-director-made-chilling-and-personal-threats-against-agents-affidavit\/\" title=\"FBI Deputy Director allegedly made 'disturbing and personal' threats: Affidavit.\">held top secret security clearance\u2014<\/a>the highest level clearance possible\u2014since 2001.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5303183\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/05\/31\/id5303183-fbi-whistleblowers-2-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n    Suspended FBI special agent Garrett O\u2019Boyle (L), former FBI agent Steve Friend, (2L), and suspended FBI<br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate allegedly issued &#8220;chilling and personal&#8221; threats to agents, highlighting the contrasting responses to Floyd&#8217;s death protests and the Capitol breach on Jan. 6.
