The New York Daily News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/ny-subway-chokehold-victim-20230503-4o33lbkdufb7lbf36jeur52z3i-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that Neely was most recently arrested in November 2021 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/21-year-old-man-charged-with-murder-of-texas-pastor\/\" title=\"21-year-old man charged with murder of Texas pastor\">felony assault charges<\/a> after being accused of \u201cslugging a 67-year-old female stranger in the face.\u201d After pleading guilty to the latter charge, Neely failed to appear for court, leading to a warrant being active for his arrest at the time of his death, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2023\/05\/11\/manslaughter-charge-jordan-neely-chokehold-death\/70209542007\/\">USA Today<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Family&#8217;s Perspective<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDaniel Penny did not have the courage to look Mr. Jordan\u2019s father in the eye,\u201d said Dante Mills, a lawyer for the Neely family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Indictment and Response<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Penny <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/grand-jury-indicts-daniel-penny-in-death-of-jordan-neely-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was indicted on<\/a> June 14 after New York officials promised to investigate the incident.
