The outlet even quotes Henry Louis Gates Jr., a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/02\/16\/yes-frederick-douglass-american-patriot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">well-known historian<\/a>, who emphasized that publicizing these family ties is \u201cnot another chapter in the blame game\u201d and \u201cwe do not inherit guilt for our ancestors\u2019 actions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet both the Harvard professor and the publication eventually give in to the implication that collective guilt about the nation\u2019s \u201coriginal sin\u201d should be normalized and that the U.S. is \u201cintimately tied\u201d to \u201cthe institution of slavery.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a180ea723d7591ea3ddc4b47c4e80524 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a180ea723d7591ea3ddc4b47c4e80524\"><\/div>\n<p>The intimation that the records \u201cprovide a visceral link between today\u2019s decision makers and slavery\u201d is a sentiment often repeated throughout the article. The authors also link America\u2019s slavery track record to current political issues such as the summer 2020 race riots (which the outlet deemed \u201cprotests\u201d), President Joe Biden\u2019s repeal of Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reuters-spends-7000-words-digging-up-which-politicians-are-related-to-dead-slaveowners-and-demanding-you-care\/\" title=\"Reuters uncovers politicians' ties to deceased slaveowners, urges public concern.\">executive order banning taxpayer dollars<\/a> from funding \u201cfundamentally racist or sexist\u201d government trainings, and Democrats\u2019 increased call for reparations.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/08\/21\/no-america-wasnt-built-slavery-faith-men-created-equal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pin the sin of slavery<\/a> on Americans who had no control over which families they were born into is not a new one. It became even further popularized following the death of George Floyd. <\/p>\n<p>This \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2020\/06\/05\/how-lefts-normalization-collective-guilt-ripping-america-apart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">great guilting,<\/a>\u201d often helmed by the radical left, demands that millions of Americans \u2014 especially <em>white<\/em> Americans \u2014 must shoulder pay for the crimes of generations past by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-russian-police-arrest-over-700-protesters-against-ukraine-war\/\" title=\"Reports: Russian Police Arrest over 700 Protesters Against Ukraine War\">posting black squares<\/a> on their social media, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/24\/black-lives-matter-activists-executed-a-shocking-83-billion-shakedown-of-american-corporations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donating billions<\/a> to the Black Lives Matter <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/17\/tax-documents-further-expose-black-lives-matter-organization-as-racist-multimillion-dollar-grifter-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scam<\/a>, reading books penned by <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/08\/19\/how-libraries-are-indoctrinating-kids-to-think-all-white-people-are-racists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">race grifters<\/a>,  and funding expensive <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/17\/san-francisco-moves-forward-with-5-million-per-person-reparations-while-city-falls-apart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">race-based reparations<\/a>. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Guilt Gap<\/h2>\n<p>Reuters specifically made a point to highlight the disparity between Democrat members of the last Congress, 8 percent of whom appear to have slaveowner ancestors, and Republican members, 28 percent of whom appear to be blood-related to slaveowners from more than a century ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b1d6352b37ea5cc8fb8f556eb1e8491a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b1d6352b37ea5cc8fb8f556eb1e8491a\"><\/div>\n<p>The outlet goes on to claim that the \u201cpreponderance of Republicans reflects the party\u2019s strength in the South, where slavery was concentrated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough white people enslaved Black people across Northern states in early America, by the eve of\u00a0the Civil War, slavery was almost entirely a Southern enterprise,\u201d the article continues.<\/p>\n<p>The attempt to link Republicans specifically to the crimes of those in the past \u2014 while failing to acknowledge that Democrats were largely the pro-slavery party at the time \u2014 continued with Reuters\u2019s framing of how elected officials responded to the genealogical findings. <\/p>\n<p>Reuters feigned shock that \u201cfew were willing to discuss the subject\u201d even when the publication reportedly \u201cmade clear that it was not suggesting they were \u2018personally responsible for the actions of ancestors who lived 160 or more years ago.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and Republicans both spurned the publication\u2019s attempts to elicit groveling, which Reuters framed as a silence at odds with elected officials\u2019 penchant for speaking \u201cpublicly, sometimes eloquently, about the legacy of slavery and the need for racial healing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reticence underscores the enduring sensitivity of slavery as a political issue, an unease that genealogist [Tony] Burroughs suggests is greatly amplified for many people when one\u2019s own kin are linked to the brutal institution,\u201d Reuters added. <\/p>\n<p>Even then, those who responded to Reuters requests, such as former Republican Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, were regarded suspiciously by the outlet which was quick to note he \u201cvoted against making Juneteenth a national holiday\u201d and co-sponsored a bill that aimed to keep <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/06\/not-convinced-the-1619-project-lies-about-history-look-at-this-professors-forced-confession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">propaganda like the 1619 Project<\/a> out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-here-are-the-10-worst-colleges-for-free-speech\/\" title=\"Report: Here Are The 10 Worst Colleges For Free Speech\">taxpayer-funded schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/19\/juneteenth-threatens-americas-civic-traditions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>[RELATED: \u201cJuneteenth Threatens America\u2019s Civic Traditions\u201d]<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Polls With Partisan Goals<\/h2>\n<p>Perhaps the most bizarre but key element of the article is the inclusion of a poll, administered by Reuters, that claims \u201ca politician\u2019s links to slavery might sway some voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a national survey, almost a quarter of respondents \u2013 23% \u2013 said knowing that a candidate\u2019s ancestors enslaved people would make them less likely to vote for that candidate. That number rose to 31% among respondents who identified as Democrats, and 35% among Black respondents,\u201d Reuters asserted. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The article admitted that it\u2019s \u201cunclear\u201d how this issue compares with \u201cother hot-button issues such as abortion,\u201d yet went on to advance the narrative that those who know they were born into a slaveholding family line are more supportive of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/university-of-colorado-president-pushed-out-for-supposed-lack-of-commitment-to-diversity-after-establishing-millions-for-race-based-initiatives\/\" title=\"University Of Colorado President Pushed Out For Supposed Lack Of Commitment To Diversity After Establishing Millions For Race-Based Initiatives\">race-based initiatives<\/a> like reparations and a congressional commission to \u201cformally apologize for slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both of those proposals are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/democrats-seek-reparations-national-apology-slavery-we-are-moving-closer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">currently led by Democrats<\/a> who have repeatedly failed to force the idea on Americans, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2022\/11\/28\/black-and-white-americans-are-far-apart-in-their-views-of-reparations-for-slavery\/#:~:text=Americans%20view%20the%20prospect%20of,descendants%20should%20not%20be%20repaid.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">majority of whom<\/a> still believe taxpayers shouldn\u2019t have to pay people just because of their race.<\/p>\n<p>The lie that Americans are responsible for the sins of people who have been dead for decades is a vile and dangerous one wielded with the intention of guilting people into supporting partisan and <a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/reparations-would-cost-trillions-and-are-unconstitutional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unconstitutional<\/a> policies.
