He Could Face Execution Method Never Before Used in Idaho<\/h2>\n<p>Accused killer Bryan Kohberger could face the death penalty, and a new mode of execution for Idaho, if he is convicted of the murders of four college students last year in Moscow, Idaho.<\/p>\n<p>Kohberger has been charged with killing University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kaylee Goncalves in November.<\/p>\n<p>The Latah County Prosecutor\u2019s Office notified Kohberger\u2019s public defender Anne Taylor that it would seek the death penalty in his trial that begins in October, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/news\/idaho-murders-case-state-seeks-death-penalty-for-bryan-kohberger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KMSP-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/coi.isc.idaho.gov\/docs\/case\/CR29-22-2805\/062623%20Notice%20Pursuant%20to%20Idaho%20Code%2018-4004A.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a> gave five \u201daggravating circumstances\u201d in Idaho law for seeking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/parents-reveal-stance-death-penalty-daughters-alleged-killer-want-play-gods-role\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">death penalty<\/a>, including that multiple murders were committed and that the killings were \u201cespecially heinous, atrocious or cruel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/idaho-prosecutors-push-death-penalty-for-bryan-kohlberger\/\" title=\"Idaho prosecutors seek death penalty for Bryan Kohlberger.\">manifesting exceptional depravity<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filing said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prosecutors-seek-death-penalty-for-bryan-kohberger-he-could-face-execution-method-never-before-used-in-idaho\/\" title=\"Prosecutors seek death penalty for Bryan Kohberger, facing unprecedented execution method in Idaho.\">killings showed \u201cutter disregard<\/a> for human life\u201d and that the killings took place in commission of another crime while the suspect \u201cacted with reckless indifference to human life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In its final citation from Idaho law, the prosecutors cited a section saying the defendant \u201chas exhibited a propensity to commit murder which will probably constitute a continuing threat to society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, noting that no mitigating factor had been found, prosecutors wrote, \u201cConsequently, considering all evidence currently known to the State, the State is compelled to file this notice of intent to seek the death penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/months-idaho-murders-kohberger-targeted-another-woman-chilling-scheme-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kaylee Goncalves<\/a> offered a statement in reply to the filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Goncalves family is grateful that the prosecutor\u2019s office is pursuing the death penalty. There is no one more deserving than the defendant in this case. We continue to pray for all the victims\u2019 families and appreciate all the support we have received,\u201d the statement read, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idahostatesman.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article276771131.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho Statesman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If Kohberger is convicted, he could be executed by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/death-row-inmates-upcoming-decision-put-states-new-firing-squad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">firing squad<\/a> under a new Idaho law.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Gov. Brad Little signed a law that takes effect July 1 making the firing squad an option for execution, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idahostatesman.com\/news\/politics-government\/state-politics\/article273481685.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho Statesman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In signing the bill to make a firing squad an option if lethal injection drugs cannot be obtained, Little wrote, \u201c[I]t is important to point out that fulfilling justice can and must be done by minimizing stress on corrections personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the people on death row, a jury convicted them of their crimes, and they were lawfully sentenced to death. It is the responsibility of the state of Idaho to follow the law and ensure that lawful criminal sentences are carried out,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Idaho state Rep. Bruce Skaug said the state needed an option for when lethal injection drugs were not available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLethal injection is the first choice. That\u2019s what I\u2019m pushing, and, if we can\u2019t do it, then firing squad,\u201d Skaug said, adding a firing squad is \u201ccertain, and it is quick. And most things I\u2019ve read, it\u2019s 10 seconds of extreme pain, and then you\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador said that when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/all-lives-matter-arkansas-gov-signs-near-total-abortion-ban-that-supporters-hope-will-force-scotus-to-revisit-roe-v-wade\/\" title=\"\u2018All Lives Matter\u2019: Arkansas Gov.
