That episode was confirmed independently to The New York Times by a person with knowledge of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reporting about the source could be significant as Attorney General Merrick Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4065784-garland-denies-allegations-of-political-interference-in-hunter-biden-probe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has denied allegations<\/a> of political interference in the investigation, which so far has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hunter-biden-reaches-plea-deal-over-tax-crimes-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amounted to a plea deal<\/a> for the 53-year-old Hunter Biden for tax and gun violations. Tristan Leavitt, the president of Empower Oversight and a lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/empowr.us\/statement-from-irs-agent-gary-shapleys-legal-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">representing Shapely<\/a>, responded with a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tristanleavitt\/status\/1673814417723539462\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pair of exclamation points<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best way to read stories in the NYT or [The Washington Post] is from the bottom up,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidharsanyi\/status\/1673835464904658946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> David Harsanyi, a senior editor at The Federalist.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Garland pushed back on the <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/garland-responds-irs-whistleblower-allegations-hunter-biden-case\/story?id=100339497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whistleblower accusations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was given complete authority to make all decisions on his own,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/garland-denies-whistleblower-claims-of-doj-interference-in-hunter-biden-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garland said of Weiss<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him for bringing a prosecution given that he has that authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general also denied assertions that Weiss sought but was turned down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-ag-bill-barr-to-merrick-garland-appoint-a-special-counsel-already\/\" title=\"Former AG Bill Barr To Merrick Garland: Appoint A Special Counsel Already\">special counsel status<\/a>, which could have allowed him broader authority to bring charges outside of his jurisdiction. \u201cMr. Weiss never made that request,\u201d Garland said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent report by The New York Times confirms whistleblower claims of limitations on the federal probe into Hunter Biden.
