Proefreidt, 26, got into an argument with his wife at their home, which reportedly prompted him to pick up and fire a crossbow at her while she was holding their infant at 5:14 a.m. ET.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Broome County sheriff\u2019s deputies and medical personnel said that authorities responded to a report regarding an adult female and infant who had been shot at a residence on State Route 41 in the town of Colesville.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe broadhead crossbow bolt hit the child in the upper torso, exiting near the armpit before striking the woman in the chest,\u201d the Broome County Sheriff\u2019s Office said. \u201cProefriedt allegedly removed the bolt and attempted to stop the woman from calling 911, then fled the scene in a red 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck before responding deputies arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BCSO is currently searching the area near Rt. 41 in the Town of Colesville for Patrick Daniel Proefriedt, age 26 of Nineveh, NY in relation to a homicide investigation. The injured woman was swiftly taken to a local hospital, however, her current condition has not yet been reported. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis is one of the most heartbreaking and senseless crimes committed in this community in recent memory. Our thoughts are with the family of this innocent 3-week-old girl,\u201d Sheriff Fred Akshar said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Proefriedt was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.
