She also donated more than $5,000 to Barack Obama\u2019s 2008 primary and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-joe-bidens-net-approvals-tank-in-battleground-states\/\" title=\"Analysis: Joe Biden's Net Approvals Tank in Battleground States\">general election campaigns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duanemorris.com\/pressreleases\/duane_morris_partner_yvette_roland_named_california_state_bar_court_judge_5358.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2014 news release<\/a> issued by her then-law firm Duane Morris, Roland was appointed bar court judge by then-Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins (a Democrat, naturally).<\/p>\n<p>A judge\u2019s party affiliation and political preferences do not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disbarment-trial-begins-for-trump-attorney-fec-data-on-judge-shows-he-has-little-chance-in-case\/\" title=\"Trump attorney faces disbarment trial - Judge's FEC data suggests slim chances.\">necessarily preclude honest application<\/a> of the law.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, our entire judicial system, imperfect as it is, rests on the belief that judges and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-judiciary-gop-biden-threatening-to-terminate-major-portion-of-border-patrol-agents-if-not-vaccinated\/\" title=\"House Judiciary GOP: Biden \u2018Threatening To Terminate\u2019 Major Portion Of Border Patrol Agents If Not Vaccinated\">law-enforcement officials<\/a> will transcend politics in pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Experience, however, has taught Trump supporters to scoff at the notion of equal justice under the law when politics is involved.<\/p>\n<p>Consider what is at issue in this case.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/arizonasuntimes.com\/justice\/first-week-of-disbarment-trial-of-trump-attorney-john-eastman-by-judge-who-contributes-to-democrats-concludes\/ralexander\/2023\/06\/25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Arizona Sun Times<\/a>, a conservative online news site, reported that during the first week of the Eastman disbarment trial, the bar attorneys argued that \u201cEastman provided bad advice to President Trump\u201d by suggesting that the-Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pence-throws-trump-bus-cant-defend-alleged-crows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Pence<\/a> had the authority to reject disputed electoral votes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-is-going-on-minnesota-and-wisconsin-both-had-89-90-turnout-something-that-is-highly-unlikely\/\" title=\"What is Going On? Minnesota and Wisconsin BOTH had 89%-90% Turnout -- Something That Is Highly Unlikely\">2020 presidential election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That is the extent of the bar association\u2019s argument for disbarment. Eastman gave his client legal advice based on an interpretation of the U.S. Constitution with which the state bar \u2014 in this case at least \u2014 disagrees.<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Times quoted First Amendment attorney Mark Fitzgibbons on the state bar\u2019s true motives: \u201cThey want to intimidate lawyers so they don\u2019t work for MAGA or conservative candidates and causes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Law professor Timothy A. Canova agrees. In an essay published Thursday by <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/the-california-bar-is-on-trial-in-its-persecution-of-trump-campaign-lawyer-john-eastman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Federalist<\/a>, Canova argued that the state bar\u2019s \u201chatred of Trump and its embrace of an establishment election narrative has resulted in a rush to judgment in its persecution of Eastman on issues that may require years, if not generations, to sort out and crystalize through historical experience and case precedent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canova, who described himself as a former \u201cprogressive Democrat,\u201d added that \u201cHatred for Trump has been used, often cynically by people who should know better, to justify all kinds of wrongs by the haters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state bar\u2019s \u201cpersecution of Eastman,\u201d as Canova called it, is shocking but not surprising.<\/p>\n<p>As a former professor of early U.S. history, I am astonished that Eastman\u2019s constitutional reasoning, which I regard as plausible if not compelling, should serve as the basis for a disbarment hearing.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, as an American citizen who has lived through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/scaros-jan-6-committees-report-845-pages-nothing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the last seven years<\/a>, I am surprised by nothing.<\/p>\n<p>I will not be surprised, therefore, if Judge Roland proves complicit in the state bar\u2019s persecution of Eastman.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how the judge behaves in this case, the present question has nothing to do with her personally. The question for Trump supporters, as it should be for all Americans, is simple:<\/p>\n<p>Why are these judges, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fried-thank-alvin-bragg-exposing-glaring-defect-americas-justice-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prosecutors<\/a>, special counsels, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-strzok-page-emails-show-frantic-exchange-night-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigators<\/a>, and agency directors <em>always <\/em>either Democrats or agents of a Democrat-dominated, Trump-hating establishment?<\/p>\n<p>From\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-lisa-page-memo-confirms-right-comey-lied-everyone-house-senate-even-courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Comey<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/matt-gaetz-sends-scathing-letter-merrick-garland-list-3-demands-ag-weeks-comply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Smith<\/a>, persecutors of Donald Trump and his supporters make a point of cloaking their partisan hatred in the forms of law.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Judge Roland will prove different.
